I was told, and I think it is true, that the crank case and carriers are a pair. Split em up and you are asking for trouble.

Yep, best to keep together...seen ink pen numbers on ladder casting but no relevance/matching to engine number.
Also seen an ink stamp 3 on some piston crowns, usually the right piston, clutch side, from memory never the left side.
No grading of bore size so not that, may be grading of piston or weight ?
You would have thought since honda went to a lot of trouble with shell bearing grading, sizing, they would have continued with bore grading, piston grading....etc..
Not mentioned in manual...

What's the finish like when it's done on wheels CTB?
Seen it been quite harsh when done to engine casings. (Hard to get them polished back up after the process).

Great, yeah let us know. Thinking on a wheel that is going to be probably 85% painted it won't matter.....plus the bits that are not painted on these wheels have a 'brushed' courser finish whereas an engine casing doesn't. Hope I'm making some kind of sense.

My experience of vapour blasting ( 33 years ago last time I did any 🙀 ) was that it gave a great finish and matt look and would attract grease and dirt/finger prints etc. but great doing it before polishin. Can only think in my experience it was a rust inhibitor we used but things have moved on a bit dry blasting with various mediums gives nice finishes too😁
