We have decided to give that 250N/A/B?? a code name, The Black Pig. It's going to stay black as we believe that may have been the original colour and that's what is on the V5. The V5 gives it as being a 13 previous keeper machine, coincidently, the same as my 400NC. I've made a little walkaround video of it and will upload to youtube tonight and post a link for those interested. There's not been much done to it so far, just some 2 stroke mix down the bores and some gentle rocking back and fore to try and free the engine. I popped a bit of Redex down too, just for good measure. This box arrived a couple of days ago but I have only just picked it up from my box. Let's open it and have a peek. Hmmmm. I don't remember ordering a mirror! A better look. Some loose bits from being in transit but put together. Well worth the €41.01 about £35.60 in real money. Next will be emptying the tank of the old fuel and taking the caliper off to make it easier to move and more work on freeing the engine. Probably pop a battery on and check the electrics too. Making time to do it is my problem, I need to get this house finished and the garage built this year.

During a break from the house building we took the caliper off. The brake lever would go back to the grip so there was not much fluid in the system so popped the banjo off, pumped the lever to get a dribble of fluid from the line. Pushed the caliper over ready to take the pads out and it moved quite easily. Took the little cover off expecting to see a clip but nothing. Then noticed the pins had nuts on the end of them. I can't remember that on my old 250 from years ago. So I just undid the bolts holding the caliper and took the whole lot off in one go. Plenty of meat on the pads but we'll put new ones in. Rubber boots are a bit... ahem... past it. The bleed nipple has been soaked in penetrating oils since it arrived as a precaution and is free. Does it look correct? I need to find my thread guages to check the pitch. A look inside with the cover off. Home to a few dead spiders! Some help, gentlemen please. I need some recommendations of where to get some service parts for this caliper. Ebay has plenty varying widely in price, all saying they fit! Any advice greatly accepted and appreciated. Thank you all in advance.

Looks like they have used cap screws instead of pad pins, they look standard but worth checking the holes have not been eased.
The bleed nipple looks ok, does the nut from chain adjuster bolt fit it? M7? Fantastic that is free...
You may need a new caliper cover & window? if the spring clip on the underside is broken?

Thanks John. Here's a better look at the cover. I knew the window was missing and guess it is pretty difficult to get one??? I haven't looked. The nipple. I can't find my metric guages so couldn't check. I think they are in with my other tool boxes in my sisters shed. I think I've got six boxes there and my set of bodywork dollys. Found my imperial guages though! I have got to say the nipple does look suspiciously like one for a Metro. They are M7 x 1 both on the caliper and wheel cylinder and can be got for quid or so. I should have a couple of those knocking around with my tools in my sisters shed. I'll check with the brake adjuster nut tomorrow as it's quicker than going to sis house!

Too busy yesterday to get much done but I wanted to get those pins out of the caliper. Looking at the ends of them, they look like they were allen heads. I say look like as they have been butchered and now and are rounded out. We tried tapping a screw extractor in but the metal is soft and the hole is a little shallow for it to go far enough in to really get a grip on it. I was hoping that the threads on the end of the pin had not cut into the caliper and was going to make it a hard job. My thinking was heat, saw, or hammer? A gentle tap with the wee hammer saw the pin start to push through. A joyous feeling! I should have got my lad to snap a few pics of that part, sorry. Next time more pics. The pins tapped out enough to part the caliper and take the pads out along with the shim. A bit of further turning and they came out completely. Closer inspection of the caliper. A tad damaged I would say. Possibly someone has been a little enthusiastic trying to remove a pin previously? I measured a pin that came out to be 4.6mm using my ultra cheapo vernier guage from wish. But the Moore & Wright says 4.7mm. It was getting late by then so we didn't go further and take the piston out. I need to make a shopping list today.

Did a big brake stock take today, to figure out what's what and found this spare... (I need to find two plastic inspection covers of the earlier version/ opposite hand, 1 used and one NOS, to balance up my stock)

You might have more stock than DS! I have precisely zero brake stock apart from what's on the bikes which includes no little windows.

It was still set to private. I forgot to click the save button when I 'thought' I'd changed the setting. Should be OK now... maybe???
