I've decided to make more of an effort to get most of my bikes back to MOT standard and back on the Road.
The CB 400NC is nearly there, just a few little things to get to get to MOT standard, like the snapped brake pedal adjuster bolt, swap the calipers and hoses out , oh and the mufflers are just holding together (Though plenty of non-photogenic ones I could still use).
As I'm not focusing on a single bike yet the thread will still be a kinda, what did I do today theme.
So we have, in anticipated order of build;-
CB250N201#### T Reg GKH CB250N Noted as being black on the V5, Objective, appearance as per a Silver CB250NDB, with a kickstart, and minor differences, it will have to use the engine from the other kicker for now.
CB250N212#### W Reg SKX CB250NA White on V5(perhaps from the dealer, as white with red/blue Honda Britain dream machine paintwork which has yellowing lacquer in places, all fine, but the tank had a perforation bottom left corner and a failed POR15 lining, but otherwise lovely zero dents). Objective, appearance as per a White CB250NDD!
CB250N212#### W Reg UBM CB250NA Black on V5 will remain black! the engine is a bit of a mess externally, and the frame needs a sweep blast and re-paint.
CB250N202#### V Reg CSL CB250N Blue kicker, but requires a vehicle inspection, as the last three digits on the V5 are mixed up, this is despite having a clutch of MOTs under the paper system, bearing the correct numbers = original matching blue kicker I have a 250NE22##### NB engine that the gears were not quite as good as they could be, quoting the person I obtained it from (who had just completed as lovely SD restoration). if I checked that out and retro fitted a kickstart, I could get its original matching engine back from GKH.
But initially I'll continue to post components for these;-

CB250N212#### W Reg UBM CB250NA Black
UBM's Tank;- Pinned the new recently printed decals on with magnets = they will do. I need to finish the black paint to smooth above the lower turn in, looks really rough in that pic.

That looks like I will only need balancer dampers for one of my engines? (this being a extract from the parts book I bought from a Honda dealer) Though I looked at another book and it said they may still be listed on later models, but I think I trust this one, time will tell...

UBM's' every day use Tank awaiting settling/cure time, a few touch-ups where the masking failed, and then a dry warm non-humid day for final lacquer. Oh... could do the pres. nature sticker (not a painting thread though , the underside, and lower tumbleholm, are nicer than the sides above the decal , but need to now think Decals on the NC, and two sets of white for SKX, by the end of the summer, maybe ) I'm quite happy with the decals, even with the cream a shade to dark, ....these were the conventional Vinyl will put the more plyable "Arlon" on the NC.

That's all I'm going to do to this tank for now, though cosmetically rough, it's come from being a £10 ebay " for parts not working", back to a functional tank painted inside and out. (For UBM)...

Though I'm well sorted for brakes to go on my CB400NC, I had had hoped to do a NOS quality overhaul on the original NC brakes and keep them in a time capsule tin for Future Use. Unfortunately;-It was discovered that the outer hose guide horn on the left side caliper was missing ( a common fault I'm told, must be a weakness in the casting), so could no longer be perfect, but it stripped ok, and we managed to get the bleed nipple out over a couple of days with about 6 intensive hot (slight glow on the tip) and cool and a squirt of WD40, The seal grooves look ok the dust seal grooves are a bit rough, but should Function . The right side was worse, 10 hot / colds but the hex rounded, so the nipple would not extract , I think the only way the may of worked was to drill a hole in a bit of steel, weld it on to the nipple hammer it a quarter turn to start it and cut the steel off again. But 50/50 that would work, and our welder is not operational currently. Anyway I've drilled and tapped the bleed nipple housing M10 x 1.5, which should equate to more sheer strength, than the original nipple thread and will fit a grub screw blank (awaiting delivery), screwed in on with a chemical resistant epoxy. The caliper could work again, but would need a banjo/blead combo... The nipples follow the pattern on this bike, of re-use of fasteners with depleted plating. All pistons and one slider bush were clearly scrap... I will do the paint remove, clean up and give them a scush of satin black anyway

The left caliper has cleaned up ok, not sure how durable that "durable" black paint is though,

Pour some petrol over it John. That's the ultimate test.

Mind you I think it would only survive such an assault if it was 2 pack.

I'll perhaps try that test on a bit of alloy flat bar, or on the right one which I'm still stripping, and leave the option to 2k this left one (even though it would be a glossy result)

Rainy day yesterday, so some decal prep for AVK (CB400N Helios-ish Red but currently grey), I think these tank strips will do...The colour Temp has been adjusted making them a bit lighter, as should be a bit darker once printed (going by the last prints) Don't have an original (painted) tank this time so a lot of photo studying...

Probably won't help you much as it's a poor photo taken on one of those Kadak instamatics that Polaroid managed to get sue them for, but here is the only photo I have of my Helios 250n taken around 1983.
