hello
i am in the market for a jacket, back in the day it was a leather or a waxed jacket, but i notice alot of folk wearing/selling cordura jackets..
currently i use a buffalo special six jacket for warmth, [ with a t- shirt/shirt underneath and a thin jumper/fleece ] with an army jacket over the top, and if its raining a goretex army jacket over the top of everything, always been warm and dry, i have had a motorcycle leather jacket in the past, but have never experienced cordura jackets...
my army bergens are made of 1000 denier cordura, and to coin a phrase are " bullet proof " most of the cordura jackets i have looked at in my price range are 600 denier, my army bergens are " water resistant " so was wondering how these cordura jackets stack up.. ?
due to financial restraints i can only afford an older " proper " leather jacket or a cordura jacket, in the price range of a maximun of £50
my gut feeling is to buy a " vintage " leather jacket, with double stitching, thicker material etc
thanks richard

Tough one. I live in a warmer climate at the minute and would certainly struggle with leather here although I do like the look and feel and want to have Dave (Firestorms) Triumph one off him when I am back to the UK.
My favourite jackets are waxed cotton, I have a Belstaff Roadmaster I have had for about 10 years now. I've only had it re-waxed once. They look great but are not really good value like they used to be I guess (they were re-invented as a fashion brand some years ago).
Not familiar with Cordura at all......I'd say maybe get out to some biker gear stores and try each on if you can. There is no substitute for this., to feel and try in a real world situation rather than buying blind off the net.

as i live in a remote area in the scottish highlands, its a 5/6 hour round trip to go to the nearest city that would sell motorcycle jackets or clothing in general, so my options are limited in that respect, which in reality leaves me asking different sellers on the internet to take various measurements of any potential jackets..

Suppose you will often get hit with extra postage up there as well .... hello,
yes we do, but only with couriers...royal mail don't put any sort of surcharge on... some sellers on ebay state that they wont post to the scottish highlands, which in this day and age is completely mad, the road from here to lands end is the same distance from either direction
and the most annoying thing, is that my hermes, dpd etc are in the town everyday, so it would be understandable if they were making a special journey or had to catch ferries
i recently contacted a seller about a leather jacket, and they refused to send it via royal mail, saying that it weighed to much ??
when i ordered my header pipes from classic bike, the internet order put the postage as £16 claiming it came under an offshore delivery, so i cancelled the online order and rang them instead, and the guy that answered the phone was as bemused as me, and charged me a more reasonable £8 with royal mail signed for
so i never knowingly buy from any ebay seller who insists on using couriers..
thanks richard

Can't go wrong with Frank Thomas, I have a set of his boots I have had for 15 year and still going strong.
