These two screw capped versions seem very rare compared to the earlier four screw capped versions. Anyone has one for sale, i’d be very interested, thanks.

Just Ebay really for the alternative models listed by CSMNL. I’ve found a couple in the States from a CB650 I think but have been hoping for one in a bit better condition. CSMNL have new stock but don’t really want to pay that if possible. I might be tempted in the end though.

So when you say OEM I am assuming you are after the exact version your bike would of had from Honda which is part number 45500MA4671 (superseding to 672)..? They do come up in the UK in refurbishable condition from to time to time and yes it looks like CMSNL have them as NOS but as you say, is that a realistic price to spend? One thing to be aware of, my 1982 CB450SC Nighthawk I owned in the USA had that version on it from new (single brake disc) but according to the bike's service records in the late nineties, due to failure / seizure, it was replaced for the later all metal version which from memory replaced the plastic 'cup' versions around 1983. I'm guessing at the time that is all the Honda dealer could be bothered to get hold of or indeed had in stock. So yes, a few models in the States also had this 14 bore version. This one is 72 USD or best offer, they probably accept 50 USD. One thing to consider is that a used one may need a new piston kit and other parts but all would still work out a damn sight cheaper than the NOS one. Food for thought.. www.ebay.com/itm/HONDA-OEM-FRONT-BRAKE-MASTER-CYLINDER-45500-MA4-672-MH64/284035376329?fits=Submodel%3ACB450SC%7CMake%3AHonda&epid=1640431277&hash=item4221d3e4c9:g:JD8AAOSw2eNexD3C

Thanks for the information Nick. Yes i was hoping for the OEM plastic oil cupped version which I assumed the bike had when new. Looks like I will probably end up going for a used one that requires some work etc.

Ok Nick, thank you. I might well do that. I’m tempted by a new one from CMSNL but know I should probably go for a used one.

I don’t blame you for wanting the NOS. Christmas is coming.

This looks very promising, thanks buster. I’ve got very limited experience with master cylinders so would you say the seized plunger is quite fixable with a service kit? thanks

I’ve got very limited experience with master cylinders so would you say the seized plunger is quite fixable with a service kit? thanks usually yes (I'v never had the misfortune of getting one thats knackered) after a good fight with the circlip (its a proper little b*st*rd) then check that the bore is nice and smooth and clean (little fingers are handy , borrow a kid if yours wont fit) but dont use anything abrasive on it, if it all feels good then rebuild. also worth taking very careful note of the way the seals and spring come out, they go in a very specific way. good luck and just shout up if your struggling

That looks like a good find at the right money. Can always advise you of the correct kit for it as well if you're struggling. Only too happy to help if you want to get it delivered to me over here (I'm in Cali), often Carl has had stuff sent here and all has gone okay. Of course, with lockdown my current travel plans are restricted so the suitcase option is currently out (which is a shame as it looks like you are in Reading which is where my folks are) but I can always ship it on some way or another. Just let me know.

Just let me know. Thanks for the offer of assistance Nick. The seller has responded with the following:- There are 2 options for shipping: Shipping is $26.00 USD with USPS First Class (no tracking after leaving the US, transit time unknown - could take several months) OR Shipping is $37.00 USD with USPS Priority (tracking, 2-6 week transit time to most locations depending on customs clearance processes and any weather related delays or holidays that occur during transit) I’m tempted to go for the 37 USD version. Do you think that seems reasonable? It sounds ok to me? Thanks.
