Brethern, Lord Beer requires more power, and something to do during these long boring winter nights, so my plan is to ditch the 250 engine and install a 400 lump, obviously this requires an engine, carbs, electrical do daa's, twin disc setup and some other things which I can't think of right now.
Of course this means changing the originality of the bike, but so what, I'm not selling it, it's mine and I want a bit more poke, so worthy forum members, what say you to this conversion?
Of course those who suggest painting it silver shall be frowned upon and visited by Lord Beer's death squads and forced to drink non alcholic beverages until they see the error of their ways.
So, bring forth your suggestions for parts required, we are in need of a suitable drunken build thread, full of success, failure, unspeakable fowl language, disappointment but ultimately triumph against all odds.
Make it so 🙂🍺👍

I really did not want to be the first. In fact, thy prince has been cowering behind the sofa for the last hour hoping not to be the first. There really is only one solution...and sadly it is a solution that you have barred me and others from suggesting. I really have noting else in my kit bag dear Lord. Please take heed and get yourself booked into the nearest quality spray shop as soon as you can. The results will be painless and instant and above all rewarding.

Prince Comstar, thou suggestion is most grave, not only is the afore mentioned Silver Dream Racer a bag of shite, riden by someone who needs a great big kick up the arse and sent on his way in a Citroën C1, but the very thought that paint is faster the extra CC's is blasphemy, get on board forum leader, great things are afoot, more power, increased speed, disaster of humorous proportions, surely all will rejoice in this most epic of quests 😄🍺👍

Lord beer. Just ask yourself......what colour is lightning?
I have just recalled it was the wonderful Sir Duffer who did your last paint job.....so I think a word with Sir Duffer is required to give you the performance upgrade you require.
Admittedly, he will have to turn up the speed on his gun to administer said silver, but we are all friends, I'm sure he would only be so gracious in honouring your request....there is no shame.

Sir Duffer honoured Lord Beer's request for a blue Superdream in homage to Lord Beer's father, the mighty Great God Odin, now in honour of all things POWER an upgrade is required, Silver paint will just not do, CC's is required, bring forth all that is required mighty forum members, be part of this most glourious quest, many beers await thee in thy great hall 🍺🍺👍

Keep it as a single disc and fit the later disc and either a 2x 30 or 2 x 32 twin pot caliper and bracket? eg CB450T, CB250NDD, CB400T Hawk 1981 ..., or you would need another Master Cylinder as well as 2x calipers 2 x discs, 3 x hoses, splitter and bracket etc. for not much extra gain.
The 250 carbs could still be used? as airbox for the 400 is a little different

Thank you Sir John, all information is most helpful, I require all parts to make this upgrade a success, engine, carbs, twin disc setup as per 400. Brethern, bring me forth all parts that I need to complete this task, dig deep into thy parts supply, mighty rewards await thee👍😄

I dont think the 250 carbs will work on a 400 engine, they just arent big enough, far easier to find a set of VB31's and track down new inlet rubbers. I think Davefirestorm has a 400 engine for sale? I'd be prepared to chance the 250 airbox (it may be ok, but my own experiments with 250 parts on 400's have not exactly worked so it may well want a 400 one to run properly) there are a couple of 400 cdi units on ebay at the moment at around £35 (tested and working it says) I'd snap one of those up straight away. I'm with john on the front disc, keep it single. if it was me I'd see if an xbr500 caliper and master cylinder could be fitted, thats a far better upgrade than the twin discs in my opinion (and less weight). one last thought, you could always paint it gre

I may as well admit it, I do have a spare 400 motor...... It was part of a job lot purchased a year or so back. It was and is, a bit uncertain as it had no pistons. Buster sorted me out there, I then had a look over it and built it back up again whilst going over the valves. As I don't have the rotor or flywheel (CDi or anything else) it is just sitting there and never been run. I suppose I could do a bench test for compression and report back how it performs. It may at least prove the concept. Oh, and silver is also the colour of the trail left by a snail.

Most worthy advice Sir Buster, save for the painting suggestion, one risks the wrath of certain doom if this colour change advice is serious. However, you are forgiven if the information regarding Sir Firestorm's 400 engine sale is a possibility, I require more details on this most worthy purchase 🤔

Too be blunt and to the point here gentleman, I require, no, strike that, I demand a 400 engine in running order, Britpete, owner of several dozen SD's, search your conscious, relieve one of your many purchases and send me forthwith the engine of superior power, along with the carbs and electrical thingys, you know it makes sense, think not of thy bank account but of the greater good, forum greatness awaits thee 😁👍🍺

another possibility www.ebay.co.uk/itm/353425636666?hash=item5249cf3d3a:g:uNgAAOSw1mpg5xO9the gear boxes in these are a bit odd (I'm going to swap mine to SD 6 speed) but everything looks to be there (including the ugly duckling on the front) and it says it comes with a warranty? a 400/450 stator rebuild is around £300 so the fact its included makes the price look a bit more reasonable

Good info lads, but a simple conversion to a 400 twin disc setup will be fine, bit heavier but probably not noticable on a wonky old Superdream, so I shall be looking for engine, carbs, front brake bits and a fork leg to suit and anything else I need, once all bits are to hand the conversion shall commence, so dig deep, what offerings can thou provide?
If only I kept bits from the original restoration, I had 400 discs, calipers etc and gave them away on the previous forum, oh well, perhaps karma will serve me well 🤔🍺👍

Previous forum - ah you mean the dark side. Might be worth an ask on there if it's still running.
