I'm looking at purchase of taper head bearings possible from Pyramid, was wondering if any known problems with fitting. TIA I'v heard bad things about pyramid (but there again people seem to think they need a hammer to fit them), I'v used silvers in a couple of my bikes, the slight irritation comes from the washer/spacer that goes under the lower bearing. if you dont fit it then the bottom yoke will likely foul the frame, if you do fit it then the headlight shrouds need an extra spacer. I used a couple of copper exhaust gaskets on the forks under the top yoke, fiddly but do-able.

Are you doing two at the same time, I think I can see another frame with wheels in the background?

Are you doing two at the same time, I think I can see another frame with wheels in the background? Only doing the one set, you are correct the one in the background is an 80 model most of the bearings are missing from it also, have all the shells but thought I may as well put in tapers. I have used quite a few Pyramid seal kits with no problems but never bearings. I am also missing side panels and tail piece of the 82 model it's an ND-B, black engine and wheels I was going to use 80 model one's in the mean time as they will all eventually be repainted. P.S. is the ND-B the Deluxe if so the 80 model tail piece is wrong!

CB250NDB Had the same flip up tail cowl as the German CB400NB in the header banner. and only goes with the later seat shape (where it matches the cowl). The squarer N & NA cowl and seat would make it original.. , if the 1980 has the later seat and cowl, could just make it look like an NB. All the UK CB250N to NDC where originally silver engines as far as I know, N,NA,NB, and then NDC had an additional external cam oil feed at the front.

If you get a pattern seat, I recommend a trial fit / dimensional check on arrival especially at the front corners, iwo of the side panels. Hopefully will be ok, but keep the packaging perhaps.
(There was a batch, quite a few years ago, that appeared to have some production problems, like the front corners came out the mould to early and had sagged inwards. Potential damage to side panels, as the spacers were not quite right either)
If not black, then fast silver on the 1982?
What condition are the seats? I have had some success reviving the seat pans using GRP repairs, and others have brought them back from the dead!
Even if the pan is knackered worth keeping the foam perhaps etc..

All I have remaining from a seat is the foam of the 80 not bad condition, so I'll go down the Wemoto track. As for colours I'm looking for a change so maybe Tanzanite Blue for the 82 and Bourgogne Red for the 80 which is its present colour. I now have the 82 model V5 in my name and sorn so I have decided to restore it first, the 80 model I have original plate but all is lost in system so will have to register it from scratch.

I found a zipper bag with ball bearings in it, decided a superdream doesn't really need taper steering bearings so its back to original, saves a few quid too.

Think about a greaser, easy to unmodify, no drilling of oe cycle parts, easy mod making greasing of those bearings a 10 second job rather than a 2 hour pita of a job...
Greasers are there for a reason

Someone was going to fit a greaser for the centre stand pivot tube...
Did they fit one to the centre stand or in the end of the pivot tube that goes thru the frame ?
Any chain issues ?

My past experience with steering head bearings in more recent years have been with Suzuki's being a 200 model 1200 Bandit and 1980 GS1000 that needed replaced after 20 and 32 years. I haven't had much problems with other marquees, and found the Suzuki's appear to have been assembled quite dry. The amount of grease replaced after renewal or repacking I think they will last at least double their previous run especially the fact that they are becoming classics they don't tend to get the use and abuse they got before retirement, I think they will see me out.
