Sadly discontinued (finally) for the UK buyer around 1983/4......in your opinion which model of bike eventually took the Superdream crown? (In terms of buying something more relevant and modern and rideable). This may have taken a year it may have taken twenty. Before I tell you mine, let us hear what you think and the reasons why.

GS500E.
You might laugh but when this came along late eighties it finally filled that void.

gs500e is a really good shout, I'v just had a look through 1989's model lists from the big four and I'm drawing a blank, this is probably why SD's were so popular as despatch bikes as there really wasnt anything to replace it. I suppose the gpz500 could be considered but it was liquid cooled and covered in expensive plastic, which would probably put most of the SD owners off at the time. maybe its true successor was the cb500 twin of the 1990's, okay so its liquid cooled but its twin shock and known for being comfortable, easy to live with, can commute and tour and could be maintained at home

Cb500 twin, the Cb500t ?
Another honda classic.
It looked very nice, but the engine "ate itself"...
A lemon imho...
Cx500, nice, comfortable, had good get up and go, but had cam chain and bearing problems.
Once those "magnificent" bits of honda engineering where sorted, a nice bike.
I would like one but don't think it would fit up my lane.
Rd LC, lovely, don't know how they were on fuel consumption but that's controlled somewhat by your right hand.
What took the crown ?
Probably the Kawasaki 4t 500 twin...
Brian has one of those...nothing but trouble he says, broken starter clutch due to ineffective carb overflow system, hydraulic lock, and that vac petrol tap with no " off" position !
Daft idea, a petrol off position essential imho.
Other Kawasaki models have a petrol off position...wish my mates gt750 shafty did, 6 weeks and over £400 in parts !
The carbs overflow is way above the main jet level in the carb intake...it's the float chamber vent really.
If the carbs have a fuel overflow system, it's really well hidden !

Nothing took it. The Superdream broke the mold.

Not sure about taking the crown but these three took up all the parking spaces in the showroom where the SD was the year before.. VT250F, VF400F, and the CX500E. i think they anticipated, buyers may go for the CX rather than the CB400ND..

Yes, I love the Superfour HyperVTec NC42 Bol D'or. I find the U.K. seems substantially obsessed by large capacity machines. For me the NC42 would do everything I imagine doing on a (road) bike....

For me personally (in a way) it was the GSF600 Bandit in naked form.
You have to remember that the 790cc Bonnie twin would not be available for another six years after that. So in my eyes, both of these took the SD crown in some ways.
