I originally found this Bonneville in the small ads about a year ago....and to cut a long story short, she became mine finally on Friday (let's just say the seller was not motivated to sell it). Bought brand new 14 years ago by this guy who was in the U.S Military. He realised he had no time to ride it and there it sat in his garage for 13 odd years not turning a wheel. Carbs are understandably blocked up (he did not drain them).....and well....that's about it. Needs some polishing also and general minor TLC... It's in here for that reason alone...so I'll give a blow by blow account with pictures of course on the recommissioning exercise. He had upgraded louder genuine silencers and America spec tank emblems fitted by the dealer before he collected it in 2006.

That first pic is very seductive! Like a beautiful lady teasing you with a just a glimpse of what could be yours, underneath her clothing.

Steady on there Andy I haven’t had me medication yet😂😂 I test rode a Bonneville and a Thruxton way back in 2004.Not too keen on the Bonne but the Thruxton I loved, bought a Suzuki SV1000 instead 😡.I liked the first triples in 1993 nearly went for a 750 Trident from Frettons Nick! But redundancy knocked that on the head.Once again feeling drawn to one but we’ll see 😁 Yours won’t take much to bring to as new condition Nick good buy lucky man.

Thanks Dave, yes it is a nice one. Need to stop polishing it now and get the carbs off as they are blocked up. It splutters and farts at the minute like nobody's business. This one could be a keeper...

First task was to stick some air in the tyres....so I can freely move the bike around during the 'recommission'... Shame in a way - to put new air in....as that is probably the original factory air in those tyres.....it's contamination in a way. Oh shut up you tart.

I've decided that once the carbs are off for a service that I am going to chuck that NOS chrome rocker cover I have on this one just to give her some added 'sparkle' The one on there from new is the (horrible IMHO) painted factory silver one that is just dying for an upgrade, it's not even the 'brushed and clear coated' version. I also intend to remove those header 'blues' - I have a method of doing this that hopefully others may find useful.

I’ve always liked blued exhausts......on some bikes shows it’s been ridden ”properly”😁

I’ve always liked blued exhausts......on some bikes shows it’s been ridden ”properly”😁 For sure.....reckon it's 50/50... on Brits I think it was a 'given'. On a Honda and other Japs, maybe it is more of a no no and frowned upon. Funny you say this now though DFS as we had a delivery guy turn up yesterday who spotted the silver Bonneville and he commented on the blued pipes saying how much he loved that about the old classic British bikes.
