The CB250N / CB400N 1978-1980
During June/July 1978 the first Honda CB250/400N Super Dreams arrived at UK Honda Dealers. These fine 'Euro styled' motorcycles were bought in to replace the somewhat unpopular (at the time) and thus short lived Honda CB250/400T Dream series, known as the Hawk in the United States. The all new Super Dreams were available as a 249cc (250) learner machine and 395cc (400) both mated to a six speed gearbox.
The first bikes were registered at that time on the ‘S’ suffix in three colour schemes, these being Custom Silver Metallic, Candy Tanzanite Blue and Helios Red. All three colour offerings were complemented by a distinctive thick Honda ‘flash’ decal along the tank which faded from light to a darker blue from the tank end to the seat with smart pinstripes and a blue ‘N’ on the side panels following the 250/400 with the name ‘Super Dream’ below. These early machines are unique in the Super Dream range due to the fact that they had a kick starter as well as an electric starter fitted, meaning that these machines are often referred to as the ‘kicker models’ by enthusiasts.
These models had the luxury of an under seat ‘glove’ box with lid and amber reflectors screwed into the side of the headlamp brackets. The speedo and tachometer had a dark blue background with white/green digits to indicate the respective MPH and KMH speeds. The CB250N’s top speed showed 100mph whilst the CB400N showed 110mph. A single disc braking system with ‘Tokico’ caliper was featured on the CB250N, the CB400N having a twin disc set up with ‘Nissin’ calipers.
Frame number range: 2000020 up to 2027217
Engine number range: Typically, 0 to 25 higher on each machine from their respective frame numbers
