Hello to everybody. I am spending tomorrow looking at a Superdream 400, vintage 1980, with a view to buying as a project. I anticipate needing a lot of advice from you more knowledgable people so may well be reading everything on the Forum but still finding questions to ask. Since I don’t have the SD yet here is a pic of my “pretend” Classic, my Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 taken on a ride. It is overlooking Barry Island of Gavin and Stacey fame,

It is overlooking Barry Island of Gavin and Stacey fame, Look at all the normal bit but importantly 1 - Rear swing arm they are renowned for rot especially near the pivot 2 - front mudguard if it has a good original chrome one that is good but check for rot around the bridge 3 - Bottom of the seat - if plastic it’s pattern - metal original but. Heck for rot and rust 4 - fuel tank - rear bottom corner near side - check for signs of rotting from inside

Well, I did it! Now the possessor of a 1980 Superdream, delivery Thursday evening. Thanks to BritPete for some advice on particular things to look. All was OK. The bike was in much better condition than I expected and runs well. Plenty of servicing to do, replacement of rusty bolts etc but it doesn’t appear to need any major work. (I hope that comment doesn’t come back to haunt me). A couple of pics. Attachments:

Looks a good clean bike Comments 1 - The front callipers are twin pot - these were on the later NC model so they have been retro fitted ( discs are also the later NC ones) - IMHO better brakes than the single pot 2 - Front muddy is a pattern replacement but that is very common 3 - I will probably be corrected on this but decals were originally red/orange but I think the blue you have looks much better If it were mine I would be delighted

nice looking bike, I'd be quietly chuffed if it was mine. as BP's mentioned somethings going on there, I wonder if a newer model had a rotten frame and someones built a later bike onto an earlier frame? I'd be interested to know what the top yoke looks like

Re the decals :- I have a Haynes manual that shows a black bike with the blue decals and, if you look at the header of the Forum, there is such a picture shown, so it suggests that black/blue is an original colour scheme. I like it anyway. I am now looking forward to getting to grips with a complete check over and replacing rusty bolts etc, overhauling brake callipers and then giving it a run. It toured the NW500 last September but has been laid up since, even so it fired up at the first attempt. A good sign I think.

Looks like a nice bike, I’m guessing there are a lot of NC which is a good thing. 1980?

Can’t see from the photos, is there an oil pipe running up the front of the engine between the 2 cylinders to the rocker box?
