The CB250N-B / CB250ND-B / CB400N-B Super Dream 1981-1983
In March 1981, the Honda CB250/400N Super Dreams received a further update. The CB250N-B, CB250ND-B (Deluxe) and CB400N-B were launched and it became obvious to the bike buying public that many changes had been made to the model. The 250cc version was now listed in the U.K by Honda as the CB250N-B and CB250ND-B Deluxe (The Deluxe version was also labelled the CB250NDX in some U.K publications in 1982, but this was by no means the official model I.D). The 400cc version was now listed as the CB400N-B.
All these bikes had a redesigned ‘flared’ style seat tail piece which was upswept in design with a black plastic insert and day glow Honda decal, much like the CB750/900F models. The fuel tank now had a diagonal knee recess on each side, in order to give the bike a more ‘slim line’ look. The CB250ND-B Deluxe model was offered with black and silver detailed 'reverse comstar' wheels and tubeless tyres. The CB400N-B was available in exactly the same two colours as the previous CB400N-A model but this time it received gold and silver detailed 'reverse comstar' wheels with tubeless tyres. It also had black fork bottoms. The 250cc models were offered in the same colours as the previous CB250N-A model and continued to have the two tone stripe across the tank. It is worth noting that the silver paint offered on the 250cc versions changed between the NA & NB /ND-B model from Custom Silver Metallic to Pleiades Silver Metallic. The silver CB250N-B & Deluxe models also used a noticeable darker two tone blue tank decal stripe to the CB250N-A version. The CB400N-B had dense pin stripe graphics around the tank, but this time using a black and orange stripe on the metallic red version. The CB400N-B also had raised Honda emblems on each side of the fuel tank which were fixed on with two screws on each side.
All these 1981-on machines had a wider tail stripe decal to suit the revised upswept seat tail piece. The front brake master cylinder was revised from a four screw plastic cap to a metal cap two screw version. The speedometer and rev counter were changed to having a black background with the speedometer featuring red KMH digits. The chain and sprockets also underwent a change from a 530 to 520 pitch – with this change came a ‘chain warning’ decal on the chain guard. All the NB/ND-B models also received a larger 'preserve nature' sticker on the fuel tank and slight revisions to the front forks.
