Some nice pics, although, I am a little confused by your thread title
13 year old, 1979
You go on to say the QLD reg was in 2007, which is 16 years

Nice bike and welcome - you're in the right place for everything Superdream and more. Cream of the crop here too.

Undoubtedly! Glad to make everyone's acquaintance. Loving the bike, everything seems in good order after finally doing a top-to-tail and sorting a few minor things.
FYI my engine number turns out to be a CB400NE-101xxxx. I cannot find a frame number.
Have also sourced a pair of 2.15 tubeless Reverse Comstar wheels in great nick (gold), will most likely change them over when it's next necessary to remove the wheels. I prefer the option to repair punctures on the road.

I prefer the option to repair punctures on the road. For info your 400N will have the front wheel and discs put on with 5 bolts into the hub each side as below The gold wheels will have come off either an NB model or an NC. From experience some of the NB models had the NC set up, see below Before stripping the front wheel off check if the new wheel is threaded to accept the bolts or you will need to source the through bolts. Note the nuts on the through bolts are specialised lock nuts. Also that set up has some gaskets between the brake disc and the wheel - they are hard to source, I bought some gasket material and made them - if you need the sizes etc let me know and I will measure the NOS one I used as a pattern

could you get round the gaskets by putting a thin smear of copper grease on the aluminium part of the wheel that the discs contact?

The gold wheels will have come off either an NB model or an NC. From experience some of the NB models had the NC set up, see below BritPete I appreciate your post. I would have missed this detail in ignorance. With the purchase of the wheels I received the through-bolts and two good discs, so all good there. Also the Gold rear drum and good shoes. But not the shims. I'm digging through the partsfische for every model now to educate myself on the nuances between wheels. I had assumed that axle compatibility would have been my only concern. Silly me. Now I've noticed that my O.G. Comstars bolt through individually from either side, and that I should expect to add these shims when fitting the NC wheels. I'm not in a great rush to swap them out -- more to the point I won't be doing it without a clean/grease/check bearings etc. So I guess I'll be adding 2 x Damping Shims 45128-445-630 to my shopping list. Fingers crossed a small list. I thought I might find confirmation of which model the Gold ones belonged to by crosschecking the DOT (which I assume is month+year of assembly?) against the release date of the 400nc, but I've since thrown out that idea because the DOT numbers are as follows: "Original" Comstars, ten bolts: Front - 680, Rear 382 Reverse Comstars, through-bolts: Front - 1280, Rear 181 Comstar 10-bolt set from a 250: Front - 280, Rear 280 Either I have completely the wrong end of the stick or these were mostly made around the same time. I had assumed my 400NZ and her compatible Comstars were senior citizens compared to the rest of the field..

The discs with the new wheels, assuming they were an original set, should give you a very good steer This is an NB disc The NC discs had additional holes in them like this

PS - In my opinion the dates on the reverse comstars match to an NB model

PS - In my opinion the dates on the reverse comstars match to an NB model Just had a look - no extra holes in these new discs disappointingly (I'm noticing the holes on the NC wheel diagram now), but the wheel definitely belongs with its through-bolts. The 400NB partsfiche shows one wheel type with through-bolts. For the 250cc model. The plot thickens! ..and it's worth noting the discs weren't bolted to the wheel when I received it. So assuming your hunch on the dates is correct, off I go to measure the bolts' length, as they should be 94mm for my bike and 90mm for the lighter bike with one disc. The result: I'm calling it 92.5mm of shank. The whole bolt from tip to tail is 100mm. It's a bit late in the evening to go hack away at it now, but I suppose I should put it all together when I have time with something in place to account for the thickness of shims and see how it all feels. The lock nuts still have some bite on them, depending on where they settle when assembled. This has given me something to think about anyway. Lest this become a "help me with my wheels" thread! Thanks Pete

I would not worry about the book
My NB, which I am sure was completely original, had through the wheel gold reverse comstars. I think they would have ran the double bolt wheels out and started on the through bolts at the end of the NB run which is common type practice in the auto industry.
I expect you have all matching kit
