if its sparking hopefully the cdi box is doing its job. standard set up is two wires out of the cdi box one to each terminal on the coil pack (each wire presumably controls each cylinders spark individually)

I will take the tank off in the morning and snap a few pictures of it all. I think you are on the right track here 😉 Any thoughts on the indicators ?

could be that they are LED? I'm not sure on this as I'v no experience with them but could it be that they are so low wattage that they are confusing the flasher unit? they usually have a rating on them (the flasher units) in terms of what wattage they will run at. you can speed them up and slow them down with different wattage bulbs

I now have a plan for the indicators. Engine. I think the wiring is wrong but I am not great at this so will take some pictures of what I have later and perter you for an opinion (Thanks in advance)

looking at mine you need to take that spade connector off the blue terminal on the coil and just have it connected to earth

After much changing of parts, anger and spittle, the bloody thing now runs. Quite nicely too. The problem was the carbs. So I gave them to a local chap who built a very similar bike and spent so long on his carbs that he became a bit of an expert. Two hours of fettling and she sprung into life. Jobs left to do - Clean the tank out some more just to be certain it is trustworthy, weld the brake pedal to a higher position, fix the LED indicators with some diodes as they are like hazard lights just now, perhaps fabricate some side panels then get it MOT'd. I plan to take a little video of it soon. Many thanks to all who found time to offer ideas.

Here we go. For those who like their pictures moving, may I present the 250 Rat.
(No laws were adhered to in the making of this film. That said, it is an un-adopted drive !)
Down to the last few electrical niggles like it has stopped turning off on the key, I need to fix the indicators so they work with the warning bulb in place, and extend the wires for the horn then re tape the main wiring loom. Other than that it's MOT time. That is the sound of the exhaust from Classic Bike Shop Ltd, with no baffling material removed (Yet).

I’m not a great lover of brat bikes (I think that’s what some people call them). However as this was a Q plate Superdream I think it was an ideal candidate. I absolutely adore the tank and the seat and being a s.d. It’s always a classic. Great job duffer I’m sure your friend will be delighted.

Thanks Carl. I must take a picture of the bike an new owner together. They will get on well I think. I have scratched the custom itch now. Going standard now.
