I have a Japan market Cx500 custom known as a GL500 in Japan. When I first rode it I thought I had low oil pressure as this red light came on, then I realised no I have an oil light so is it charging failure light? I did all checks and the charging system was fine. I finally decided to use modern technology and ……. I'd have thought they'd only be available on Silver models.

And talking of silver GL500's.......this has come up locally. A bike I can never decide if I like the look of. It's like a girlfriend you had back in the day that looked good in certain lights, but in others not so. Anyone here like it?

Mine's a bit erratic. It came to life once I exceeded 85, but I seem to have created a monster -- from that moment hence it just does what it likes. Will come on at 40 sometimes. I don't like my chances of finding a circuit diagram for the but perhaps I'll tear it out of its resin one day and do a post-mortem.

I think it looks smart but at the age it is you no longer need to use restraint and contraception

Aside from how mega those pots make it look, i'm completely on the fence about the engine configuration. But it's the extra weight that's kept me from courting one. Silver CB400N > CX500 for me.

Ok so update on the speed warning system is that I've pulled it out completely for now. Had to head-to-tail the electricals. She's a non-starter again. It began as the occasional loss of power and occasional complete engine cut that eventually would fire again. Lost her completely over the space of a fortnight. During initial diagnosis she would occasionally give a weak spark but was never repeated twice in a row and is now gone completely. I'm pretty certain I'm up for a new CDI (yay) but open to opinions. Measured values below. There's a hint of evidence that her Stator's low Green-White reading is inside some obscure spec Rex's lists but has never actually seen in practise, but I don't think that one applies to her vintage anyway. Are these figures dramatically outside those of anyome's similarly shabby but running bikes? Worthy of note but not in the table below: my battery is less than 6 months old and shows 13. V after sitting off-charge for a bit.

would it be possible to get some detailed pictures of your stator please?
the figures that you've measured look pretty good to me with the exception of the low speed source. that would explain weak/missing spark.
I'd give BBBikeshop a bell, he's a really helpful guy and check the price of a rewind on the low speed source. then its fingers crossed time that it has'nt fried the CDI

Ok update. My flywheel nut is good and stuck. Whilst I await the inspiration to invent a special wrench to hold her in place while I smack the ring spanner, I will have a go at the GM coil mod. Meanwhile, in my quest to have a powerbox on my ride, I just visited the gentleman nearby who bought the two Dreams (a 250 plant on a 400 frame and visa versa. For some reason) I had been watching with keen interest. I was there to buy a collector/power box plus two header pipes. My pipes are fine, but it turns out he actually had 2 collectors and a couple of sets of silences. So here's a question: I had 2 options. 1. Take a geniune collector with most of its guts corroded away, plus two pretty decent silencers stuck rusted into her --OR-- 2. The option I chose, which was the collector I came to buy (looks aftermarket sadly) with everything where it should be, plus these two dented, scraped beauties. ..did I chose well? My kicker is a long way from being in a museum, but I really want her running the way honda intended.
Hopefully I'm one step closer. Mind you she sounds pretty mean sans-collector, I must say!

So
Collector box - no Honda CB marks so would agree pattern but surprised it had got internal baffles
Dream silencers original but need some work
My view is collector worth £50 or so - Silencers very little due to dents
Sorry

Thanks Pete
Don't be sorry, I paid about £50 for all of it. None of the other silencers I have are complete -- they're either rusted off at the collar or in the case of the two fitted to the '78, welded onto foreign bits. So if she runs again soon, I'll probably install the collector and these Dream pipes. And see what goes.
I've done a bit of a search for the difference between these hm413 /414 and the hm443/442. Anyone know the history of the development? In terms of performance and efficiency?

So I may be wrong but The silencers you show are Dream Silencers Superdream’s are not longer and smaller flare MKW had the dream silencers on it will post a pic shortly
