That should be reachable via tool in through the filler cap.
Had one in a similar location removed from my Bandit.

It's worth a go, found that tank on evil bay about eight years ago, was well chuffed that it was in good condition, so was well pissed off when it got dented, I've got another two tanks that need painting, but I imagine the cost will be astronomical, but it's all part of the game.

Hooray, the parts I need for the carb rebuild have arrived, ordered every seal, o'ring's etc. Was recommended this company, Litetek based in Thailand, was dubious but ordered all I needed anyway and was pleasantly surprised, prompt reply to emails, tracking info, the lot, took three weeks but can't complain, £46 delivered for everything, highly recommended, they deal with mainly nineties stuff, VFR, NSR, CBR, plus other Jap manufacturers from the period. If you own such a machine check them out litetek.co/Carb_Kit_Honda_CBR900RR.html

Not much of an update, but with the bike on the lift and the wheel out I stripped the shock and linkages and cleaned everything up and reassembled
Then in with the wheel and refurbished caliper
Next up, the carbs.

Well it's time for the carbs to come off for stripping cleaning and replacement seals and so on, however I have dropped a major bollock, I thought I had a supply of cleaning fluid for the ultrasonic cleaner, but alas no, none whatsoever, so a question, I have plenty de-ionised water so is there any easy to get hold off cleaning product I can use safely, thoughts please gentlemen.

A worthy suggestion, beer has many wonderful properties, but alas I fear the golden liquid of goodness may not make it the cleaner 😁

Phew, where did the last six weeks go, working away on various projects thats where, can't complain plenty of work is a good thing in these times, anyway back to Mr FireBlade, now where was I, oh yes carbs, so everything cleaned new seals blah blah and fitted back on the bike, fuel pump reinstated, everything checked, dummy tank rigged up, time to fire it up, a few moments to get the fuel through and it fires, hurrah success, bit missy but I'm sure it'll clear, let's balance them up, tweak tweak perfect, still not sure, sounds like a slight miss, I assess the situation over a beer, the first in many weeks. Nope not happy, fire it up and out with the infrared thermometer, hmmm, no.2 downpipe is noticeably cooler, bugger. So off with the carbs and off with float bowl no.2, main jet ok but whats this, pilot jet blocked, strange everything was squeaky clean, oh well, I raid the spare set of carbs for a pilot jet and reassemble. Attempt No.2 and rejoice, sounds much better all temps are equal, time for another beer..... ......not so fast, where did that pool of petrol under the bike come from, everything switched off an isolated, ahhh that'll be fuel pissing out from No.2 carb, argggghh, you plank, you've made an arse of something, carbs off, fuel bowl off and indeed a major f*&k up, the seal was not seated correctly and has split, nuts, so I pick the best seal from the used one's and fit it, reassemble etc etc , attempt No.3, and success runs good and no leaks, time for beer consumption to restore my failing garage god abilities. Tomorrow I shall balance the carbs again and change the oil and filter, what could go wrong 🤔
