Thought this might be a nice little discussion for the forum...... One of the reasons I lost interest in a lot of the social media 'dedicated' Superdream groups over a year back was because (as well as the general standard of input) I was tired of some of the members mocking the breed. I'll stick some choice comments up soon from what I have seen recently on a certain bike group. This particular group is not one of the SD specific ones I will add....but I just thought it would be good to hit back at (and of course debate further) some of these comments without being jumped on by drunken trolls when you respond in a positive way to them. Look, we all know the SD was not the best motorcycle ever made, but none of us ever said it was. But we are fond of this particular motorcycle for a reason and those reasons can be different - and it is for those reasons that we are on this forum. Let me add though that it is pleasing to see some real positive posts for the breed on social media too, so in order to keep this thread as interesting as possible, I will share some of those as well.

Yes the poor old Superdream rarely gets a good word on most of the classic/old bike forums etc. always described as the wet dream followed by a load of drivel why their particular choice of classic 250 bike is better/does 110 mph/pulls a wheelie in top etc etc. very childish 😡

Some of the comments make interesting reading....right or wrong - reckon we should debate them.

There's plenty of bashers that have never ridden a SD let alone owned one. If they are that bad then how were so many sold?

Here's the first one:
"I still think these are 1 of the worse bikes to come out of Japan but I suppose at that price it had to be done"
Justified or not? Let's discuss....

Strange comment considering Kawasaki/SuzukiYamaha were knocking out inferior competition to Hondas 4 strokes in the 250 ~ 400 range the 2 strokes a little faster but not what you would commute on.Lot of Bollox spouted on the 2 strokes especialy the 500 and 750 Kawasakis they were NOT as fast as folklore says they were.

My AP50 would do 55mph with me on it at aged 16 and 14 stone. Well in my mind anyway. But it was red so probably would!

Sometimes we can be a bit too sensitive, the Superdream being referred to as a wet dream is a classic example, in my mind a wet dream is a very enjoyable thing, maybe that’s just me having a dirty mind 😉

I'v run two 250 superdreams (in the real world ie go to work and sometimes it was my only transport, no buses to fall back on where I live) and I'v owned the odd two stroke from the era (gt250, gt185) and if I'm honest theres not that much difference. the truth is the gt250 was more 'buzzy' some days its not a problem, some days its bloody irritating, I have to be in the right mood for a stroker (still want a stroker though). the SD's I never had that problem, comfortable, easy to ride, big bike feel (especially when you borrow big bruvs bike at age 16 because my mt5 had broken down) and my own 250 (bought a few years later) handled far better than either of the suzuki's in the twisty bits. I'd totally agree that at least 50% of people who call them wet dreams (regardless of carl's enjoyment in this area ) have never owned or ridden one, which is sad really, their loss.

Haha.
It's like that bloke on the last forum, I think his name is Thrower. He says. 'if my garage is burning down I would leave the superdream in it'
Um.....give your head a wobble mate, its a Superdream forum.

i think a lot of the superdream bashing is done by people that ride like they stole their bikes tbh.
i mean i have had bikes that do in excess of 170mph but im far lees likely to die plodding along on a superdream enjoying riding, instead of wondering how the hell i made it round that bend at that speed.
when i had my yellow one my riding mate was on a sv 650 that was clearly the superior bike.......on paper.
he would often want to ride my superdream when we were out insted of his sv, because in his words "it feels like a proper bike".
for me 80's bikes are where its at, ive had newer bike and they just dont feel the same, so anyone that talks crap about superdreams i just have the thought they eaither have never owned one or wanna be riding much faster bikes and therefore will never understand.

Fantastic opinions and this is what it's all about.
Next comment:

How many of these 'absolutely awful things' have we seen left for umpteen years in sheds, barns, hedges(!) that get a bit of oil dropped into the bores, some fresh fuel and start?
I do think some are comparing to more modern machinery. What do you expect from a bike that's 40 years old? My B18 had drum brakes, no rear suspension (unless you include the seat springs), advance and retard twist grip, a manual valve lifter you had to let go of to start it and you had to change gear by hand. Fast forward 40 years to 1976 and you have a completely different biking experience.
