"Traded my ' Super Dream' for a Bonneville T140E back in 1980. What a massive difference between these two bikes. Not just because of the power difference but the handling!! I shall never forget it. Had that Bonnie for only 4 months then it got nicked !! Gutted š"

"Bought my mates of him for my 18th birthday, 79 on a T plate, just over 1000 miles on it, the dreaded mk6 or what ever with the dodgy ballance chain. Had it for almost 3 years, think I put about 40k on the clock, bloody good work horse, never let me down."(Gordon Anderson) the balance chain probably gets a bad press, it shouldnt really be an issue if its kept reasonably adjusted. I'd say a bigger overall issue is the early balance weights (the ones with cush rubbers) as they can end up with a fairly unbelievable amount of slop in them. I'v fitted later type weights to all my engines and only time will tell if this is easier on the chain but I suspect it is

makes me think that a lot of these people got bulled with the 250's that they bought? it sounds like they had issues (stator, carbs, or something else) as a proper running 250 (Paul/kickstart has a fine example) goes really well and certainly wouldnt be mullered by a cg125 (I'v owned both)

Agree with you Paul. Really don't know how people can knock the 250 for what it was designed to be. Mine went / goes astonishingly well.

Must have had a problem to be overtaken by a cg125 or more likely scared witless by the sheer power of the SD and was tiptoeing home to change his pants.
My friend at school had a cg125 and it most definitely could not keep up with my older (1979 model) 250N.

My bike was parked at work last week like it is 9 + months of the year and a visitor asked who owned the bike I said it Twas I he asked had I travelled far I replied a little over 15 miles in to work he replied Iām surprised I bet itās unreliable my answer was itās very reliable the only problems in over 10 years were stator ,cdi and the odd puncture and Iād covered over 30,000 miles on it in that time and dare I say havenāt had the carbs off yet !

"I had a superdream. Sometimes ambling along slowly through the countryside is a much more joyous experience than head down arse in the air thrashing around. Ok I'm old but I enjoyed it."
