so, describes them as absolutely awful things, I'd suspect read about the SD but never owned/ridden one
chocolate cams, eh? I'v got an almost 40,000 mile engine and theres no discernable wear on the cam lobes, its picked up a little on the centre journals but nothing I'll lose any sleep over (bit of that lucas gloop in the oil should keep it happy) I'd say that statement is just plain wrong
crap cam chain tensioner, again eh? its a spring for gods sake (sorry getting irritated with the prat who originally wrote these comments) if he doesnt understand how a spring works maybe he should leave the motorbikes to us and take up ludo?
poor brakes, ok they wont stop you like an early 600 fazer (most evil stone wall brakes I ever tried, hell they had some stopping power, too much if thats possible) but I'd say they were ok of their time
worst bike ever, someone should remind this guy that his mouths for speaking out of and his anus serves an entirely different purpose...

The brakes are crap to be fair.....but probably no worse than say the competition of the day. I'm talking XS250 / GSX250 etc.
You can make 'em better.

Sometimes we can be a bit too sensitive, the Superdream being referred to as a wet dream is a classic example, in my mind a wet dream is a very enjoyable thing, maybe that’s just me having a dirty mind 😉 Very valid point. I'm certainly not sensitive about this at all as I have grown up with it....the press were negative from day one about the SD much like they were about the OIF BSA's - something about the seat height.... It has since been proved many times that the seat height on that bike was actually the same or even lower than many of the other offerings at the time so the press just chose to write b*llocks for some reason. Just reckon it's interesting to know everyone's views on the SD, being positive or negative. Nothing is perfect.

I’ve put this on the site previously and still makes me chuckle.Younger work colleague bought a new R1 and when I bought me first Fireblade reckoned I received a free “Pipe and slippers“ because he reckoned the Fireblade was slow and an old mans bike 😂.

Is the Superdream a bog basic bike from a million years ago? yes, is it slow? yes, are the brakes and suspension crap? indeed yes.
However does riding it put a great big smile on your face? very much yes, I won't lie, I nail my Superdream everywhere, not 30's, built up areas etc, but out on the country roads I torture the little sod and occasionally surprise the odd modern bike, just ask Mr Triumph who had a Superdream go past and weave and wobble around the bends as fast as it was possible to go and disappear off into the distance, granted the Triumph could've blasted by at anytime, but it's not the bike, it's the rider, you can have a fast bike, but can you use it. And the Superdream will take this abuse all day every day, I love it,and if it breaks I can fix it with beer and a hammer, maybe some other less destructive tools as well 😁
Enjoy riding what you have while you can, these days the future looks very uncertain.

The criticism aimed at the SD never really bothered me. It wasn’t the quickest 250 around but when considering the all round package, it always seemed very good to me.

You Pays your money and takes your choice. Depends on what you are looking for in a bike . The couriers back in the day found them suitable . I find that they are a nice bike to look at , all the right bits in the right place. If you want to open it up there's enough for most people . Don't care what others think, it's me who's riding it . If someone don't like it ,they can just move along .

It's not just SDs that get slandered the CM gets stick too I have a copy of bike magazine (april 82 ) and they do a Giant test featuring a Yam xs400se ,Suzuki gsx 400l, Kawasaki z440ltd and a Honda CM 250T ,yes a 250 and they gave it a right roasting for not being as quick or as powerful as the rest only good thing they had to say was that the honda handled better than the rest .Talk about lopsided
