I did an essay over 50 years ago on history of combustion engine and the name Gotlieb Daimler comes to mind as the producer of the first motorcycle with a combustion engine.

Hildebrand and wolf something or other. Strange looking thing, con rods connected directly to the rear wheel. Daimler made a bike first with that fella Maybach.
