From what I have read before, it does look like the frame and engine were a pair. The numbers would suggest that they are correct for that reg year, a nice early one!
I'm sure you've checked the reg on with DVLA. I did when I first saw it on ebay. Says registered in October 1978 is black and the last V5 issued 6 September 2004. Oh and it's not on a SORN. No MOT history for it but that part says registered 23 October 1978 and again says the colour is black. Just like the seat cowl.
I think you've scored a good one for that price and is something I would have a go at.

Thanks Andy. I have sent off the documents for SORN as the log books were a then missing. I too think it is an interesting one to do a "nut and bolt" job on. An early one with one owner is going to be rare. If I can just get some more history like old photo's of it from the 70's that would be great.

I remember seeing a link to the models and variations of the Superdream from start to finish showing the changes along the way. I could use a link to that again if anyone knows how to find it.

Hi Interesting find , agreed engine and frame numbers are close enough to be genuine . will be nice to have the original log book as well . best of luck, I think this one is well worth the time and effort it takes and you do make a very good job of them

Needs a bit of work but a good one to restore. Not sure if it would of been black originally on that plate? Not sure if that colour was available then? The underside of the cowl looks blue so maybe it was tanzanite? Maybe?

I think black came along in 1980??? with the NA's. 1978 had silver, blue and red. The stripe on the cowl is wrong so has been applied after a respray.

Great find, I have one similar condition that turned out to be a one owner. Do it but make sure you have deep pockets 😬
