That is is a very impressive reconstruction, never had one quite that far gone! The bases where I've reconstructed the front corners, I've put lightweight glass WR over the edge and then epoxy bonded the edging on to give more strength and seal it from moisture. (Polyurathane sealant on intact edge edging.) I've not got a welder, so used 20mm annealed, thin, stainless strips, Tangs cut with heavy duty tinsnips and secured with M5 button head screws. The top of the last few bases I've processed, coated the upper surface in "Zinga" cold Galv, left it 24hrs, then sprayed it with 2K Lacquer, left it a couple of Days to cure, slight rubdown before applying the black and normal laquer. I hope these seats I've repaired, never need more than a cover change in future . Oh and a bit of cheating with some Chamios, for the new foam effect

Thanks for posting that John. I enjoyed seeing how you tackled it, particularly the clever "cheat" with the chamois leather ! Truth is, many manufacturers use cheats, and every car repair workshop certainly does, so it is perfectly legitimate. Many years ago as an apprentice in the "Posh" car factory, we were shown how the vertical lines in the chrome radiator cover made the ribs look bent in the light, so they bent em to look straight ! Years later when I repaired a car for a customer (front wing. I worked in the paint shop) he called me to reception when he collected it as he could not see the "join" at all and wanted me to now tell him where I joined it. I refused. My then manager went mad and said something like "If Lord watsisname want to know, then you must tell him". I said no again, because "Sir", if I told you then you would think you can see it, but as it is the illusion works perfectly and your car is as good as new. Expecting a bigger bollocking from the manager we were both astonished when Lord watsisname reached for his wallet and gave me a big fat tip ! Nowt wrong with cheats and illusions. (If you are interested, I knew that that shade of green never matched, so I sprayed out the whole side. From tail light to boot lid I could still see it. Other than that it looked like a trick of the light, and there was indeed no blending at all where he was looking)

Thanks Nick. Should get it sorted soon. I have now painted the repaired seat pan so will post a couple of pictures of it later. I also noticed it came up in the discussion at the weekend. Should my ears be burning with thoughts of "Dozey git. You can't polish a turd" ! au contraire, says I.

Sadly I was not on that meet as I was on child care duties (I don't mean with our fellow forum members or myself) but I hope to join this week if we are graced with another.
