I know this is predominantly a site that celebrates old motorbikes......but some of us are into all things moto retro too........so either way Rich can you get details of your new acquisition up on the forum? (Pretty please). Don't wanna pressure you but that car looks fantastic. Even if some of this lot are not into cars I'm sure as an 80s biker they will have no doubt crashed into one at some point....painful memories can sometimes also be good.

Ok Nick that’s fine My story started with the Capri 10 years ago, I first saw this car while delivering to a customers house tucked away in a barn away from road., not many people knew it was there. First time I saw this car all I could see was the headlights as the view was not full on but from the side & every day I put mail in the guys post box I could see this Capri as no garage door so always visible. I never spoke about it to owner until just before Xmas as never saw anyone just this peeking out almost daily. I really looked forward to seeing it daily as reminded me of misspent youth. A week before Xmas I was delivering post to the house & the owner (older guy) happened to be in the barn so I called out to him as I had a parcel (xmas 2020 everybody having parcels) I asked him about the Capri......... more to follow I gotta go to work

The owner was pleased I asked about the car & invited me to have a closer look so we went into the barn/ garage & we talked about it for 10ish minutes two owners same family was stored in a showroom for loads of its years & only thing it’s ever had done is normal services a few ball joints over the years a new radiator last year & a respray as paint had gone a bit dull ! Never had any bodywork no welding & very good condition inside & out, he offered me to sit in to remind me of the 1980s which I jumped at, he took a picture on my phone for me. The Capri is a 1984 1.6. LS he hit me with the bombshell “it’s for sale” I asked how much as I had no idea although I knew these old Ford were quite pricey! I showed some interest & then got on with my delivery as I was getting later & later When I got home I went on internet looking at prices of Capris Lots of rough ones on there cheaper but it seemed to me to be a reasonable price so I thought I would have a good think about it while I did .... more to follow...

Absolutely wicked.
My dad had a Capri this shape, still recall the reg it was SCF336Y in bright yellow. I'm pretty sure that was also a 1.6LS or 1.6S.
Him and his mates bought it together as a work commuter in the early 1990's for peanuts.....it served them very well. From memory after about 5 years they sold it for more than they paid.

My auntie and uncle had a MK1 in aubergine when they lived in Inverness. I loved that car. It wasn't a 3000E though. They went on to have a MK2 in yellow. I might have some pictures somewhere, I'll try to look them out.

Looking back they were very iconic motors, much like our beloved SD.
It's like everything......the Capri and the SD are two prime examples of this - they went through that 'naff nobody wants them' stage to being cool and desired again.

Over the Xmas period I would stop & chat to Peter the owner of Capri & on one dry sunny day he started her up for me & brought it out of the barn so I could see it outside, I was getting hooked to be honest, I never took photos that day unfortunately we spoke some more & I said to him that mot was out middle of January as I had looked on DVLA website & asked if he was putting a fresh MOT on, he said it would be sold with a fresh MOT xmas came & went & nothing much happened with the car but I could not stop thinking about it. my wife was fine about me getting it but I wanted to be sure before making a offer & because of this COVID problem Peter hadn’t advertised the Capri thankfully ! anyway I was having my daughters car MOT,d in a garage on my delivery as I know owner well & helps me out with stuff mechanical. when I went in to see the work that needed doing, Derek the owner said “hey rich go around the back & see what I have to MOT later ! I went around the back & this is what was parked up ! story continues later....

I was gobsmacked & pleased to see it out, so I had a good look around it & started to think seriously about making a offer! I told Derek the garage owner that I’ve been thinking about buying this car, he told me a few stories of when he used to have one as a rally car as he used to rally back in the late 1980s. I asked him if he could have a good look at the car for me as I could only check the stuff I know about & it would be great if a mechanic could have a good look at everything while up on ramps. derek agreed to give it a close look over when doing MOT later that day I had to go & pick up my daughters beetle so I was waiting with baited breath on condition. it was good news everything Peter had said about the car was correct & Derek said that if you want a low mileage Capri Thant’s never been welded & in very good overall condition then this is the one I went home in the beetle & rang Peter straight away with my offer. after a bit of usual haggling I managed to get Peter down a little bit not as much as I wanted but no way was I going to lose this car over a few quid so we agreed a price & job done. I had to wait a week as money was tied up & had to wait for it to hit my account before I could get my Capri. picked it up now in my neighbours nice warm garage.

Fitted some new alloys & I’m storing the original wheels to go back on the car if ever I sell it, it will stay all original, I removed the moss alarm yesterday as it was just draining the battery as I won’t be using the car much & it was a really old system prob not much good.

Used to sell loads of Harry Moss alarms back in the day. Probably sell 10 of them to 1 Sparkrite alarm. Dead easy to fit, quite reliable and priced well to sell. The most popular was the MS705 and you could buy the ultrasonic sensor, MS703, as an accessory that plugged straight into the back of the alarm.
