The insulator washers for Heat Shields, what are they made off
On Saturdays Virtual Meet it was suggested they could be replaced with PTFE washers
Thoughts please

I've only ever heard them referred to as 'fibre' washers. I think originally back in the day they would of been asbestos?
Must have quite a bit of metallic content in them I would have thought, they are tough little washers. Always found it funny how Honda insisted on them having four washers on each heat shield, behind and in front of the shield.

Tufnol might be a suitable material depending on heat the shields get up to,it’s ok up to around 250 degrees Centigrade

I haven’t machined Tufnol for many years and from memory it pongs a bit when cutting it,I used to machine solid bars of carbon and machine bits of carbon coated with layer of Cadmium 🙀 was given a pint of milk or an extra penny ( pre decimal ) an hour for the pleasure, health and safety my arse😂
