so couldnt resist having a bit of a tinker. the rear right hand indicator wasnt working, if I screwed it about a bit it would flash which suggested a bad earth. on further investigation it turned out the stem had been broken at some point and someone had repaired it with a roll pin probably not the worst idea in the world but it doesnt really work. so had a couple of goes at a solder repair but I was struggling to get the metal clean enough to take. so plan b, araldited the little bugger and left it in a clamp, I'll refit it in the morning.

then decided to do the headlight bowl, not a job I was looking forward to as the vipers nest is a bit daunting, its not connecting things up right that bothers me with this job its trying to route everything properly (I'm of the school of thought that says stuff it all in, it'll be right). the old bowl had had some abuse at some point new bowl fitted and a vague attempt to sit the wiring something like it should be I was so impressed with the condition of the back of the headlight I thought I'd share this pic and all back together, not mint but much better

so the araldite (bodge) seems to have worked only problem is the bullet connector wont fit through the roll pin so had to cut the wire, then solder it, then finish with a bit of heat shrink and can we spot the numpty mistake in this pic

Made a really nice job of that buster. Recently replaced a headlight and shell myself and appreciate what you are saying. Yours looks very neat.

indicator back on then got on with cleaning every wiring connection on the bike (they are surprisingly good, very little corrosion) this did two things, first the headlight and tail light came back to life and second I killed the flasher unit (oops) the connectors were the only ones on the bike that were very badly corroded and in taking them off the flasher units packed in so new one on the list also on closer inspection the bottom yoke isnt just missing a bolt its snapped and someones had a go at drilling it out. TBH they arent exactly difficult to come across so I'll pick up a replacement and unlike the one thats in I'll fit the correct bolts (critical, like engine bolts and wheel spindles)

had another little job to do this morning, change a rear wheel bearing on the car. this is honestly so easy I still cant believe it, normally car wheel bearings are a total pig of a job to do. this one however simply take off the wheel, then the brake drum, tap the dust cap off and undo the large 30mm (socket size) twelve point nut. it really was that easy, happily I work for a firm that has a fine selection of torque wrenches, so borrowed a suitable one to tighten the new nut. and now back to the much more important matter of the 400a...

a familiar sight to anyone who's ever stripped one down it did feel like it was coming until... barrels took some shifting too, but patience won in the end almost 35000 miles showing on the clock and that ring gap is tiny, god I love these engines

cant put this engine in gear (think the front sprocket had been on from new) also couldnt find any old gudgeon pins so bit of solid alloy rod and a couple of bits of hardwood make a handy engine stopper wots this thing then? and I'v seen much worse ear trumpets than this one I'v started cleaning the engines internals but I need a new gasket scraper or two. fingers crossed the main shells are ok as they are all brown
