Someone made one from stainless steel and sent it to me for a long term test which it past with flying colours....a bit on the heavy side and would benefit from drilling out the centre a bit to reduce weight but keeping the brake pedal bracket end as is for the fastening bolt.
Have a rethink about the grease nipple as it will probably catch on the chain.
I have a grease nipple in the centre stand pivot tube in the centre stand.

@ johnfcbn44dx - Does your son's school have any metalwork facilities? (Hint Hint) My lad's doesn't, nor any of the other secondary schools here. I enjoyed metalwork at school but it seems to be frowned upon now in favour of more academic forms of engineering. My son has chosen engineering design as one of his subjects and he looks forward to the lessons, but I do wish there was something practical for them to do. I'm on the lookout for a lathe but the prices are silly for the use I would give it.

Yes they do still have a metal working lathe I think, could be an idea.. They may not have the correct tolling for stainless though.

Not a difficult job on decent lathe stainless not nice to drill though. If you buy a lathe Andy go for a small Colchester but make sure all the tooling with it as this can cost as much as the latheš

Colchesters are the ones I have been looking out for. Bantams and Students look ok to me, but it's been so long since using a lathe, I'd need to refresh. Our local tech college has a part time evening course, Introduction to Machining Metal, which is 3 hours a week for 5 weeks at a cost of Ā£200 which I think is a reasonable price for tutoring. They also do this one, Introduction to Welding and Fabrication, again part time 3 hours a week over 5 weeks for the same price. It seems popular as the next one is fully booked. I'm ok at welding with arc, mig and gas but always open to learn new stuff.

I could do with the welding course I have never been any good at it.Ā£200 money well spent always handy to have a lathe to use mines a Chinese lathe around size of a Colchester student itāll do but would prefer a Colchester

Just measured the centre stand spindle I have and compared it to Johns excellent drawing my spindle dimensions I have highlighted in pinkš I measured the holes the spindle goes through in the frame and one hole=20.4mm the other =19.5mm.And of course the holes in the centre stand which I havenāt got would be most likely oval,so I conclude that every centre stand shaft is likely different dimensionaly due to 40 odd years of wearā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦.Iāll get me coatš

I'll update my sketch, especially for the Diameter, of which I had the most uncertainty....

Good call I couldnāt remember where Johns drawing was at first. What we need is a new old stock shaft to copyš All the used shafts are going to be worn as are the holes it goes through in your stand. If you want a perfect fit youād have to drill/ream maybe sleeve your stand and make the shaft to suitš Does it matter thoughš¬š¤
