Hi, recently bought a 1979 Superdream but unfortunately it struggles to start and barely runs. Before I start to strip the cards I notice under the left hand side panel some wires just hanging and not connected to anything ? There is a blue and white wire that are sheathed together that have spade connectors but are just hanging loose? Also a block connector with red, green and blue wires also not connected to anything ? All very strange. I will try and upload some pics. Any help is most appreciated cheers. Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk

This is the wiring in the panel the big block that is loose at the bottom is the left most one I think the 2 wires you have are the ones that connect here This is another angle
please confirm I am correct

Thanks, I will check when I get home, they certainly look like the wires and connector that I have just loose. Question is, wheres the block connectors that connect to them? Very strange.

It would appear from your pictures that the wires/ connectors that connect to the ones that I have loose, come from the loom above the panel, yes ?

The White and Blue Wires go to the CDI so that will point to your start issue

The bigger white block connects the coils under the alternator cover to the loom and up to the other connections on the CDI
Is the CDI under the tank?

Below is a typical CDI unit - as you can see the 2 connectors that you have fit the CDI hence question is the CDI unit missing!

Where should the cdi be ? The manual is no help in locating it.

Just had a look and there is a cdi box there albeit an aftermarket one !! Looks like its been "custom wired" into the loom, lots of red bullet connectors !! I wonder if I could get hold of a OEM one and replace it ? Heres a picture Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk

I would take the alternator cover off and see if the pickups are standard or after market

if you can I'd check the wires coming off the cdi, there should be yellow and green (to the HT coil), white and blue (to the stator), light blue, pink and green (to stator) and black and white (engine kill, the only link to the main loom).
if that cdi has a brown wire (extra from those above) then its a 400 cdi unit. the brown will probably be alongside the light blue, pink and green.
the 250 cdi's arent that difficult to buy and are considered to be pretty reliable, like all electrical components they can fail but on a 250 its more likely that the HT coil or the stator itself has packed up
