Hello everbody Thanks for letting me join the group I am a born again old-age biker and now the recent proud owner of a 1980 cb250na (think with 23000 original miles), currently a non-runner, hoping to get it up and running. A house move (a couple of years back) forced me to sell my 1960 Triumph 3TA and a 1962 BSA C15 (that I had owned for 40+ years and needed fettling after my sale) but miss bikes so have decided to move into the modern world with my 1980 cb As a group guest I've been looking at the various feeds and impressed with the level of knowledge shown. I was so impressed by the bike rebuild and moved by the ending story documented by member 'duffer' Now I'm a member I look forward to reading feeds previously unavailable to me and will certainly be on the lookout for bits I need for my bike. I hope to end up with a daily runner (albeit a dry weather biker nowadays) and realise that non-oem parts will need to be used. This group looks to be the place to be to help my mission Its not a basket case but its a door stop at the minute Cheers, Phil

Welcome on board - your 250 looks a great base and hopefully will not take long to get on the road
Alongside my SD in the Garage I have a 1959 3TA and a 1959 C15

Welcome along, nice bike, especially the tank and plastics, decals are nice originals it would appear, would you get away with sticking a new "250 N" section, over that side panel emblem damage, an easy fix?
Though an original emblem is available at a price...

Great idea as a holding measure. The panel is badly cracked from the top of the panel and has been repaired at the back with (what looks like) hardened chewing gum
Will start looking at the cosmetics once I can get to the bottom of the road and back with my feet on the footrests
If I can get it going well then its worth spending a bit of money on it
Cheers, Phil

Hi Phil, Since you are a biker ( you would have to be having a 3ta and c15 ! ), a motor cycle ist, even fair weather one, you will be aware that bikes in hybernation, particularly long hybernation, that things like valves, piston rings, clutches and brakes can "stick" ( valves stick open usually ), so great care is needed in your bikes resurrection.
Get a manual, and gen up in CMSNL.com for the exploded views which are very informative.
I am sure you did your research and know some of the "family faults" of your honda master piece.
20 odd k miles, so not so bad but....
You are aware of the balance chain and the significance of the "dot".....
At all costs avoid the situation where you have to remove the cylinder head as the four centre head bolts can be really problematic.
Another problematic system is the pointless ignition system, which may be dead in yours. I truelly hope it's just carb/fuel problem.
So, engine wise, gen up, really take your time confirming valves open and close ok by turning the flywheel by hand, else run the very real risk of turning a viable engine into scrap in one stroke.
Take your time and enjoy...

Already feeling part of the group - thanks peeps Good advice John, I now appreciate things have changed since three whitworth spanners, a flat head and cross head screwdriver and a pair of mole grips was all that was needed to strip a bike - and forgot the big hammer! A CDI - what sort of witchcraft is that Never thought I would ever say it but Google has been brilliant - and now have access to practical brains beyond where Google can reach - and Google doesn't have much of a sense of humour
