One of my birthday presents was this.....a camera + bundle. Only camera I have been used to in recent times is the one on my IPhone. Time to learn.....would like to get some vids up on YouTube using this.

And I'm assuming these can be used to get stuff up on a You Tube channel?
If anyone knows, please shout up - dealing with a total amateur here.

You can use anything to put up on youtube, your phone, a camcorder or your very nice camera. Lots use a gopro as it's small and easy to carry. For example, you can even record the virtual meets and put that up... but you need permission from everybody. The same with videoing in certain places like shopping centres, railway stations, etc.
What sort of stuff are you planning to do? Sound can be important so invest in a decent quality mic and don't rely on the cameras one. A lavalier mic is useful for outdoors. Then you have studio mics, shotgun mics... Have a look at Rode, they do decent mics. Then you need editing software. There's some good free ones to start with then as you get used to them you can upgrade to paid ones for better/more features. Then there's mixing consoles.
Getting views and subscribers is the hardest part starting off. They say not to make the video public to start with, but to get the link out to friends, onto any forums that are relevant and on social media to rack up the views before making it public. This way, the video will get higher on the suggested video list and gain you more exposure. (Oooh Er Missus)
Really, just start now with what you've got and learn as you go. You could be the next Dan TDM (net worth $40M) or Mustie1. They reckon he earns $2.5K a month upwards from yt just fixing stuff he buys from yard sales and from the free pile.

After some deliberation and soul searching I have decided that this camera is not what I need - it is actually too much for what I need as a youtube beginner.
So I have had a heart to heart with the present giver and we have agreed to get this changed.....for a Go Pro probably the latest version. This will be more suited for what I want right now....and it means that I will be able to share footage of ride outs over here with you all as well as other stuff.
Will keep you posted.
