Give it a squirt of WD40 or other penetrating oil and let it sink in, it should be fine.

WD40 left to soak in then take it slowly unscrewing and give it a turn clockwise too every couple turns as if you were tapping a new thread.Inspect thread and bung new plug sourced from a reliable supplier.fingers crossed š¤š½

Try tightening and loosening it, only slightly, to work the penetrating fluid into the threads. I hope there's no damage and you get it out ok.

Let us hope it's not cross threaded, that would be a real pain.

Unlikely to be cross threaded me thinks itās long thread to force all way down likely over tightened or a counterfeit plug hopefully a happy conclusion when itās out run a tap with lots of grease on it down thread

Agree Sir dave, but if the threads were in poor condition when the plug was fitted it can become cross threaded on the way out, let us hope this is not the case, Sir Andys advice is sound, inchy pinchy, back and forth, easy does it.

is there any alloy corrosion coming up with the plug threads? if the threads female thread is corroded it can compact and then it feels like its tightening even though your turning anticlockwise. it may be worth screwing the plug home again (if you can) and warming the engine and then trying again

Thank you for all the advice it is now out. Do you know what the problem was Anna ? Hallo TerryC. I think just needed to put more releasing lubricant in as I did...then took forum advice and undid and retightened plug gently until eventually it came out. So glad it never broken.
