Most of us in the know will know this....
But I guess just a reminder for folk that are not so up on this subject when it comes to buying a 'historic' vehicle. Just been having a chat with CTB about a bike that is currently on the market. Mileage showing approx 15k. Seller I think does not mention the mileage but there is a clear picture of the clocks showing that mileage. The clocks are not right for that version of bike so we can quite comfortably assume they have been swapped out for whatever reason in the past.
Computerised MOT records began in the U.K in 2005 so if there is no government MOT history or even history back to 2005 that backs the mileage on the clocks up then just be aware that there is absolutely no way anyone can be certain of the miles that vehicle covered from the date it was registered up until any MOT after 2005.
Just something to be aware of. With a bit of due diligence, we can all make more informed decisions in this matter and to what we are actually buying. With the price of getting bikes shipped rising in cost daily (it seems) I think this is all the more important right now for people that are buying blind. At least if you can view a vehicle you can make a more informed judgment simply by the way things feel / look /sound and if we smell a rat then we often walk away. It's still a jungle out there.....

Yep. I watch some of these urban explorer vids on youtube and a lot of them come across abandoned cars - then make a big deal about the mileage. I cringe when they say 'ooh look at this just 12 thousand miles' without any consideration that it may have gone around the clock. If you are sad enough to check the reg numbers (like me) on the gov sight, 9/10 chances are they have been around at least once. Sorry if this is off at a bit of a tangent.

Will add to the Thread, when I bought MKW with 20k miles on it pretty certain original miles
German TUV and the TAX sticker on the number plate was 1994
SME, which has 36k miles on it came with 30 MOTs - Love paperwork with bikes and cars
I'm such a sad git still got most of the service records/receipts/MOTs for my, now sold, cars

Mileage not a biggie on these bikes......IF and it is a big IF.....they have been maintained regularly with fresh oil etc etc etc .
But as you say, it is of course important to know what we / you I is buying.
