I'v never fitted one myself but I'v had bikes that other people have fitted them to. to be honest they seem to cause more problems than they solve. in the very confined space its hard to get fuel to flow through them with gravity. if your old fuel filter (on the petrol tap, inside the tank) is clogged or broken I think replacements are available, hope this helps

On an SD I fit the small VW type fuel filter between tap and carbs.
It fits neatly behind the side cover spike tank hole but needs a length of pipe to plumb to carbs.
Been using them for many years on a SD with no problem whatsoever.
I go up into the hills far from every where no problem.
They are inexpensive and work.
Taps are available with removable sediment bowls and brass screen filters, seen one on here in the last week...can't remember which thread, may be a buster thread....get a small magnet to fit in the sediment bowl...
Fit Allan bolts to the carb float bowls etc., flush the tank including the filler cap, the tap reserve "sump" fills with crap/rust etc....the oe tank filters have a "hole" and the mesh will let the fine tank "rust" pass, which then collects in the float bowls and fuel cross over pipe as a rust mud.
This will not do the engine any good......
Carbs can be cleaned in situe when you know how.
Be carefully with the brass mixture screws, seals, washers and springs. See CMSNL exploded views if your not sure...
You don't have to completely remove these mixture screws when cleaning in situe, the "mixture feed holes" and progression holes are visible when the dash pots and pistons are out, and the throttle opened. They are all ( ALL !! ) on the bottom of the intake between throttle butterfly area none are on the "side" !!!!
The brass mixture screws are immediately below the mixture feed hole nearest the cylinder head.
Cheapo carb cleaner spray ( 90p per can from stermat ) works well, one per carb, and or compressed air...
My SD is due for a tank/carb clean service very very soon but seems to be running well on this doped fuel...anyone else finding/noticing this with thiers ? Cheapo Morrisons fuel.
Cheap! That's a bloody joke eh !

ANNA, see "home", go to very bottom of page, use latest posts...fuel tap, buster 400a restore and projects....page 9. LINK ADDED BY BP BELOW hondasuperdream.proboards.com/thread/973/cb400a?page=9Did you clean your carbs all ok ? You can use redex fuel system cleaner mixed with petrol, strong dose, in a container large enough to hold carbs complete and allow to be submerged and soak for a week....fire risk so be very very very carefull !!!!!!! I tend to add the redex fuel system cleaner to my SD fuel....haven't tried the fuel " conditioner" for lawn mowers yet as SD in regular use...5per cent dope ( ethanol) in fuel here but due to rise to 10 percent very soon, then the problems will really start.... Service your bike from front to back well, before you come to UK for your visit...a deep thorough service. You have " recovery" and break down insurance and have puncture proofed the tyres ? Enough for now....JJ. Be carefully out there girl.

Sediment trap/brass filter screen type fuel tap similar to mtx125, will check thread size etc. later.
Been meaning to get a couple of these for the sd's for a while now.
So mine will have oe tank filter, sediment trap and filter screen with magnet and vw small paper inline filter.
Think I have finally found some metal pipe to form 180 degree bend to plum onto carbs, many less clips...
Flow should be ok to carbs when tank 1/4 full at about reserve level.
I tend to top up the tank before hitting reserve, at about 130 miles on the trip counter.
Carb Allan bolts make in situe carb cleaning sooooo much easier, much less of a pita.
