my 450 stator has arrived today and all is not well, testing completely dead on a couple of wires so going to have to save my pennies up for a rex's replacement, not totally unexpected as it was advertised as untested (read I'v tested it and its dead , so I'll list it as untested). however when having a look through rex's listing on their website I noticed that there are two types low power and high power? I'd not heard of this before and (assuming were talking about engine power, why would they be low electrical power?) which models were they fitted to? is there an extra dimension to increasing the power output on say a german (low power) 400? or was this an american market thing? I seem to recall nick saying his 450 (86 california model from memory) nighthawk felt a bit gutless, could be that ultimately I need two of the rex's units, eventually...

I have andy yes, I had an in depth conversation with the very helpful roger about what I'd done with my 250 stator and I'm sure he would do a repair on just the bit thats broken (cheaper) but I think for peace of mind I might go for the fully reconditioned items from rex's (thats assuming they will do the exchange on a 450 unit) still not totally given up on the 250 stator yet, I need to do some tests with the bike running and warm, see if that reveals anything

I suspect mine was a blocked jet Paul but then again, I did not get chance to troubleshoot before I moved her on. But yes, could of been. It was a 1982 CB450SC. www.cmsnl.com/honda-cb450sc-nighthawk-1982-c-usa_model456/partslist/#.YR_e74hKjIU

thanks for the info nick, just had a quick gander on cms and the california models seem to be the ones with a different stator set up (oddly with the exception of 1985 model?) no doubt the dreaded emissions legislation struck again, bit ironic considering the popularity of V8 muscle cars in that part of the world

There is no consistency whatsoever.

Looking at the Clymer manual it seems to expect that the 450 stators are essentially the same, with exception of the "450 Rebel";- 400 then 450 then 450 rebel 1978 to 1987
