I have to admit that when I went to put my usual £40 of diesel in on Friday evening and saw some of the pumps closed, I did put more in than usual, £8.72 more to be exact, so I am guilty of this panic buying too. I hang my head in shame and will stand in the corner. I am so sorry! Shocking behaviour Andy. But you have admitted this now so you are halfway there. Admittance is the first step. PS are you good for bog roll?

Just my way of reducing my carbon footprint by leaving out the middle man that processes said media into that soft fluffy stuff that's allegedly kind to my bum!

It brings tears to my eyes just thinking about it!

Well I think the way forward is to have the Army enhance the quantity of deliveries for a week, and for consumers to be allowed to chill a bit.
Sitting here, watching the Andrew Marr show, there appears to be no coordinated plan only moving the immediate problem from sector to sector. The housing market is already broken from a buyers point of view, not enough supply. If they are "bringing in" 5000 drivers and 5000 meat processing workers, where have they arranged accommodation for them, hotels? Also if they pay them more than those already working in those sectors, apart from obvious extra one off expenses to come here and short term hotel costs, there could be an allergic reaction in the existing workforce that brings things to a halt.
Also where are these people standing-by to come here, given there are shortages of the same skills elsewhere, let the offer be clearly put to them, and it is not a hollow incentive whilst they are standing on a rug, which is ready to be pulled from under them, and they are treated fairly.
A proper solution will take months, if not years.

I have to agree with you there, John. No real thought out plan, or so it appears, until it gets fleshed out more. We have an abbottoir/meat processing plant (ABP) on the edge of Shrewsbury and the languages spoken there are not English but various East European. I rent a house out to Romanians and one of them works there and another at Mullers making yogurts. It's apparently the same situation there, majority East European workers.
I suppose by bringing in these workers, it will push up the cost of rents again, creating yet more problems.

well it seems reverting to a tubeless front on the xbr didnt work, its gone flat, probably down to alloy corrosion still on the bead . I could just keep pumping it up but its a naff solution, so off with the tyre and a new inner tube fitted, just how I wanted to spend my sunday morning. I reckon its the only option though as I'v enough fuel in the car to get to work and back for 1 day and then its over to the bike. problem is the only petrol I'v got chucking around is what I drained from the 400 thing to paint the tank. hopefully that will do a couple more days and, fingers crossed, we'll be back to normal by then

Went on a Royal Enfield ride out and a few panicking regarding getting enough fuel to get home, luckily we were somewhere I know like back of my hand which is unusual as I have no sense of direction😂😂 short ride and low and behold a place to fill up no queues but £1.43/litre🙀 so the Enfield almost full now but it does around 70mpg 👍

I was up at Dunfermline for most of today, late afternoon the panic appeared to have much reduced, I pick up 4.5 litres of E5 (£1.46/l) in a plastic can at a shell station for the 400, only one pump still doing diesel, but not short of E10 or E5. I went past a BP station on the route home, seemed calm (unless they have run out, and it was M&S shop only??)

its just taken me an hour and fifteen minutes to get home from work (twelve minute journey) because I had to find some diesel. looked at four petrol stations, some closed altogether, some with an odd petrol pump available, before getting to morrisons in skipton where they had some diesel (and a nice long queue). I was going to put my normal £25 for the week in but got cut off at £23, if they had told me there was a limit I'd have respected it, what this is doing is making the poor cashiers job hell. I felt really sorry for the guy as I'm guessing he's probably been on the receiving end of idiots all day. fingers crossed that common sense prevails soon

At 09:00 this morning, busy but calm, the Morrisons in Kircaldy where there is not any space to queue, but only two cars waiting to turn right into the petrol station, as I drove out ~09:30ish.

On my travels today this was the situation here in Shrewsbury. This morning Tesco Extra only had diesel but all pumps looked to be in use with cars filling. I did see a tanker parked on my way out from the shop so expect they will have had their delivery. Fairly long queues at Morrisons this evening and longer queues at Sainsburys on the retail park around 2pm. The little independent in the next village to us, about 3 miles away, was shut with no fuel.
Strangely, no queues at all at the EV charging points. I'm beginning to wonder if this all just a government ploy to get people to buy these new fangled machines. Does Boris have shares in Tesla?
