Wonderful bargain. I too purchased a bike today. Must be something about the date. 27th August is now national buy a motorcycle day - you heard it here first.

Wow, really Nice! If the seat was red and it did not have the radiator cowls, exactly the same as my B982GSX.
I used my one in all weather's
Changed the left slide push button headlight switch cluster twice. The front downpipe/collector box & rear downpipe twice. The bushes and boltsin the rear suspension linkage twice. I only remember doing one chain and sprocket change once (genuine Honda parts) Changed the Camchains at 24-25k Changed the oil with best shell synthetic every 3600 miles, it just destroyed oil. Once I put standard BP oil in, it was spent at 1500 miles. It was a very very reliable machine....

It had taken over from the SD in the Edinburgh showroom I bought my one from in 1984. They were selling lots of VF400Fs & quite a few VT250FDs. No where near the SD quantity of 1980/1981, though. I would guess there are perhaps more VT250s still working than VF400Fs though.

I'm going to have to own a v twin at some point
not sure it would have taken over from the SD judging by the list of service needs that john's posted but maybe I'm wrong, when I was a learner the 125 was just a stepping stone to my full licence, was the attitude different when you could ride a 250 on L plates?

A lot of people started on a 100cc or 125 as a learner then moved to a 250 as a learner

Back in my time it was seen as the natural progression to go from a 49cc moped to a 249cc at the age of 17. I couldn't afford to do that so went to an A100 older than the AP50 I had. I took my test on that A100 and it was a little while before I went to my 250n. I found it plenty powerful enough for riding around in North Oxfordshire.
