I guess it depends on how you want to use it. Pottering around locally, without might be better. If you're going to be riding in all weathers or on motorways then with might be better.

Saw it in the small ads yesterday and just thought it was really quirky. Not a massive Yam fan but I am aware of this model (and version). It's an '81 Yamaha 'Midnight' Maxim 650. Second owner, only about 8k miles on the clock. Quite a rare little beast. Shaft drive. Certainly probably an acquired taste though.

Hate to say it but I have to pass I think.....without even seeing it, a machine like this belongs in a museum in 2022 IMHO. The parts for this model (after doing a day of research) seem hard to find, let alone for this special edition - then it becomes non existent.. Things like components of the exhaust system as an example, seems very specific, a shame. It's not even as if you can go out and buy credible copy part systems like you can on old Japenese stuff like you can our beloved SD. Then again, maybe I should just buy it, ride it up the PCH and enjoy it for a few months then double my money in the hope of finding said museum owner?? Hmmmmm.....probably not the right time.

didnt even know such a bike existed, I dont suppose yamaha raided a load of parts bins (virago?) for bits and pieces. if its all one off model parts I'd leave it alone.
wow I managed to post about a yam without criticising it
