I have gratefully received a sump from a 250 engine (many thanks CTB). Am I right to hope that it as a straight swap on the 400 engine ?

glad your sorted as I drew a blank in my own spares (only got 450 ones with oil cooler holes) as far as I know the 250 one should just bolt on, might be a different diameter engine mounting bolt depending on year?

Now I have a sump, which will cure the busted and seized engine bolts and the reason the flywheel rusted up. However..... ahemm..... we are not out of the woods, as you can see. This one has been in the hands of a master bodger, and if we remember this was sold as a runner, then also a proper lying bar-stuard. Gasket set ordered for a full strip down and re-build !
