when a job needs doing it needs doing. this car actually came with a full service history (non dealer) when I bought it, so presumably this particular bodge was done by a so called proffeshunal. theres been a vibration in the nearside front wheel thats been getting gradually worse for weeks now and solving it has been driving me quietly mad. so this morning armed with a new steering knuckle (complete with bearing/hub cos I'm lazy) and two new calliper bolts I set about sorting it. I know I shouldnt really work off just a jack but I'm not really under it, just reaching in. the problem it turned out was some halfwit had presumably stripped the lower calliper mounting bolt, to 'fix' it they had drilled it out and tapped it to take an earlier vw calliper bolt of a totally different design. the offending bolt on the left, as it should be on the right. the alloy sleeve over the top was my attempt to temporarily cure it (got to have transport where I live) the job itself went smoothly and it took about an hour and a half to sort it

So do you need to replace the treaded mount I suppose it could be welded and redrilled and tapped but its honestly easier just to replace the whole thing. the new assembly is just to the right of the jack in the top pic
