This one is beating me. I am doing the final preparations to hand over a 250, and the only thing misbehaving is the throttle return. The cables are not bad, but drag just a little. I would have thought the return cable would manually cancel any drag. I have changed the carbs and get the same issue. The air box is well attached with a good filter, and yet still.... Anyone solved this problem before ?

once had a problem on my old rd350 yam, the throttle cable had worn itself a groove in the tube (almost circled in the pic) and then occasionally nipped, ultimately cost my a great deal of bark off my arse and my leg on a roundabout just outside selby, and yes it hurt

Dreadfully sad to hear about your arse. Moving on.... So the return cable obviously didn't help 🙄 🤔

Dreadfully sad to hear about your arse. Moving on.... So the return cable obviously didn't help 🙄 🤔 the yam was on slide carbs, no return cable. I'v never really seen the point of them on CV's but most seem to have them. I'v taken problematic ones (return cables) off over the years and never had any problems but I probably wouldnt sell one to someone else that way.

The opinion I have is its the cable. As much as it shouldn't be,it probably is. I will report on progress....

if you can visually see that the cable is dropping back (tricky I know) then it might be the needles in the slides. a decent quality rebuild kit should sort it, I used a keyster kit on my 400 and it worked spot on

Hi duffer,
This throttle return problem is on an sd250, yes ?
As you know these is quite a strong return spring on the left carb.
Sticky cables, frayed cable inners, that metal bend, water in the cables, even twist grip and rubber......

Thanks John. I'll be pulling the cables off again now.
