You need to watch the water - I sometimes use de ionised water as tap stuff not good here
Also as soon as you take the carbs out rinse and wash them with running water - I use a toothbrush

back to doing things my way, carb cleaner and airline and as rebuilt as I can go today, pilot/mixture screws on order also new cut off diaphragms (that will probably have to be modified to fit as they arent available for these carbs)

When I were a lad 😁 I worked at a place that had a huge ultrasonic cleaner it resembled a big stainless steel chip shop fryer 😂 and we used a cleaner made by company called Janitol not sure if the degreaser they sell online now is same.Believe dishwasher tablets work too

second time I filled it up the temp gauge displayed 50 degrees for about an hour, then I heard the water starting to boil, lifted the lid off and the temp gauge jumped up to 94 degrees.I let it cool down to about (an indicated) 80 degrees and pressed the ultrasonic button a fair few times before it started, the first lot it counted 30 minutes as programmed, the second lot it started counting from 99 minutes, so you have to watch it carefully to make sure it doesnt overheat or overrun

Just a thought. If indeed an Ultrasonic cleaner does get little use does that mean in time one would need to ultrasonically clean the ultrasonic cleaner?

the original reason I was cleaning these carbs was not down to running issues as such, they are really nice and smooth on a bike, but down to the fact they pop and bang a bit (not much, just enough to irritate me) on the overrun. they completely changed the fuel cut off system on these carbs (1986 california 450 nighthawk) and they actually have a little brass spring loaded valve pressed into them so the ball on the end of the diaphragm is not needed on these carbs, just the stem to operate the valve mechanism. this leaves me with a bit of a dilemma, I could remove the brass fittings and go back to the older system but then I'd need the old aluminium caps to go with them. the other option is simply clean up the parts and valve mechanisms and refit those, I'v gone with option 2 for now. these are the 2 systems for comparison
