Well this is probably the worst Superdream I have taken on, I think it’s worth bringing back to life as it’s a low mileage and one owner from new, sadly that owner discarded it in his back garden without and protection back in 1990/91. I collected it in the dark using a torch to inspect the frame, when I got it out of the van this morning this is what it looked like in the light of day.

Would you say this one is in a better or worse state than TJA when you first started?

quite a project but if the sub frame and swinging arm are good it looks do-able, looks to have quite a lot of original bits. tin of gungum will sort those exhausts no problem

Unfortunately the fuel tank is like a culinder, corroded from the inside out, plastics are okay with all lugs intact. I think the seat has no life left in it.

Unfortunately the engine is seized solid 😢, so it may be a while before more work as I’m soaking the bores with diesel to see if I can release the bond,

Great news after 4 days of putting, diesel, penetrating oil and fuel additive down the bores (not all at once) I used a breaker bar gently putting torque on and she let go, engine now turns over freely by hand with no nasty noises. Next plan is to try a compression test. I will post results shortly. Fingers crossed.

I normally dont go a bundle on compression tests (stick my thumb over the plug hole and go yeah its got compression) but I think its a good idea for an engine thats seized from standing, heres a pic of one of the pistons from my 250 engine (seized from standing) I cannot for the life in me budge those rings, they have soaked for weeks in heating oil and still wont move, the last roll of the dice is stick it in the oven and see if that does the trick its worth adding that someone had run my engine way too rich so fingers crossed yours is ok

This strip down is not going to be easy, I can’t get the back wheel out ffs. The spacers have corrosive welded themselves to the spindle, it took breaker bars either end to get the nut off the spindle but the spindle will not extract. It took an hour with penetrating oil and breaker bar to get the spindle to rotate, but it’s rotating with the spacers, I’ve tried mole grips on the spacers but they keep slipping so I hate to say it but it looks like the grinder and metal cutting discs are to be used 😡.

Looks a tough one to fix CTB but will be worth it in the end. There’s a really nice bike under the corrosion etc. All that deterioration yet the FVQ decals on the shocks look in near perfect condition.
