The day is here, the Alfa is on the road and Toyota is having a well deserved rest before my sister kills it First impressions, because I haven't driven the Alfa more than a few hundred yards before now, it drives well, handles better than the Toyota, engine is smooth, needs a few miles under it's belt to get the brakes bedded in and get rid of the moisture out the exhaust, a bit steamy at the moment, but everything works, praise be to Odin. So in conclusion I am very happy with my decision to keep it, it does seem it bit confused about being parked outside after 10 years in a garage and is trying very hard to edge its way into mine π But the bikes are having none of it and it's 4 against 1 so the driveway it is. So there we have it, another forum success story and all that's left to say is thank you Mr T ππΊ

Going to work this morning and no washers, oh dear a puddle has appeared π€¨ Be this the first of many faults, thoughts of digging down to the buried washer and pump do not humour me, an investigation ensued. Thankfully, turns out it's a simple problem The pipe had split, so it was the work of moments to cut the bad out, borrow/steal a washer pipe connector from some car that was lying around in the yard, and problem solved. This Alfa ownership isn't that much of a problem really π€ π€¨ππΊ

Strange electrical woes you say, nope not here, not at all... ...apart from the alarm going off for no reason, and so it begins, or does it. My man suggested checking the connections to the siren unit which lives behind the passenger wheel arch liner, great place for it π€¨, the helpful LED indicator in the car also flashes a code when the alarm is activated, this also suggested connection from sensors to siren, so on to the lift. Dismantling the siren unit revealed nothing obvious, apart from an internal battery that was obviously dead with a corroded plug. Amazingly found an exact match on evilbay, what luck. So until that arrives the siren will be left off the car, I would have thought the system would have recognised this as tampering and prevent the car from starting, but no. So on this occasion I shall not put this down to dodgy Alfa electrics as any battery would have done this after such a length of time. Will my diagnosis be correct π€πΊ

Bloody hell, to many Alfa posts around here, but here we go again, behold the Alfa in my work garage lair. Had the master engine failure message come for for a second on my way home from work, turned round went back and plugged in expecting the worst, but only got P0571 brake switch failure, sure enough no brake lights, fooked on with the switch and got them working, but intermittently, I'm hoping this is the fault as it's an easy job to change, as previous I can forgive this as a general problem not an Alfa fault as it has been sitting for a while. But I left the car at work and took a pool car as I don't want someone crashing into the back me, to be honest I only kept the Alfa because I have this option π Can you see my old Toyota in the background taking the piss πππ πΊ As to prove a point about Japanese vehicles, the 40 year old SD went out at the weekend and performed as it should. Fun and games, why not makes life interesting, unfortunately my interest in cars only goes so far, you have been warned Mr Alfa π€¨

ππ Good find Sir Buster and how true, of course the second rule is not to buy an Italian car in the first place.
I apologise for my failure in applying common sense, makes for fun reading though π

Brake light switch turned up today and fitted, cleared the codes and so far so good, what do you mean I've spoken to soon, have faith brethern. Also fitted the battery to the siren unit, the pins in the socket looked a bit dodgy so desoldered it and soldered the battery direct to the board, bit of hot glue for extra protection, I'll fit it at the weekend and test by only arming the system at work for a couple of weeks, don't want to woken up during the night π Everything will work perfectly now π€

Decided it was time I pulled my finger out and refit the siren unit, its been sitting on my desk since last week, stopped back after work, wheel off, arch liner moved and plugged it back in, clear the codes, check systems with the scanner, and put it all back together.
Will I be arming it tonight, not bloody likely, a couple of weeks of arming with no problems at work then I might.
And so far the replacement brake light switch seems to have solved the other problem, and no one's crashed into the back of me, so I'll call that a success πππΊ

The fuel cap, yes that most simple of items.
It's crap, took ages to get the sod to engage before I could lock it, very embarrassing at the fuel station, so took it to bits and the teeth that engage when It's unlocked were worn, after 14k miles!!! Plastic of course π€¨
So ordered a new one, just have to swap the barrel and only Β£18 so not the end of the world.
But FFS car manufacturers, let's face it It's not just Alfa, use decent metal components you tight b******s πΏ

Order a pizza. Enjoy it. Then thank the Italians for at least one consistent thing - heartburn.

Suburb news brethern, the Alfa completed a round trip to the Great God Odins house, a mighty journey of fifty miles, without major disaster or annoying warning lights, I shall now rejoice with this most delicious tipple, shall this good fortune last, let us see π€πΈπ Yes, alcohol is the answer to Italian car ownership π
