I agree Pete, not too shabby. Matches the gold wheels so much better IMHO but of course the yellow was still nice. Did a quick mock up before it all has to come off again and the real work commences getting it properly recommissioned. This is another slow burner methinks but heck, what's the rush?

I've no idea why people remove these. I'm guessing to save weight. But I'm happy to re-install this item on the Thruxton. Anyway, my racing days are numbered and this bike is not silver anyway.

Really the thread title should be updated to “The Former Yellow Peril”

I really really do need to stop procrastinating and get this back wheel out to properly assess the damage it suffered. I want to do this before I proceed with the rest of the bike. For some reason my level of procrastination has reached level 10 these past weeks....let's say 1 to 10 being the scale and 10 the highest. It is probably even an 11 to be fair. Anyway, any one ever heard of or even fitted tyres manufactured by Kenda ? The ones fitted (Dunlops) need replacing but these Kendas seem to come back as a good price in these sizes.

must admit I'd never heard of kenda (isnt she head of the nac mac feegle clan?), not sure what sizes thats running but I would have a look at michelin pilots, very good balance between grip and wear. last pair I got for the kwack were £130 180 rear and 120 front
quick question nick, does the swinging arm attach with the rear engine mount? I was looking at the tuning bits available for these motors, it seems our american and klaus cousins rather like them to go a bit faster...

Kenda, cheapo tyres suitable for small cc bikes...unless they have "developed" since those days.
If you can afford that bike, put "good" tyres on it.
Having said that, there are some good economy Chinese tyres that I use on the kwaka and SD, will be back with the brand name after formula one race...
Maxxis, that's the brand I have used, and still use and I trust them. Great in the dry but I don't "push" a bike, or car come to that, in the wet.
Hope they are still made and are a good price.

Yes sir, here is a sneaky pic taken 3 minutes ago (someone has deleted the airbox on this one and not really made any attempt at keeping things tidy, hence why it looks like a bit of an abortion):

Had an hour or so today to get the rear wheel out and the tyre off. This is going to give me a massive kick up the bum and get me motivated now. Damage clear in the pics. I took some wet and dry to it in order to take a better look.

Shane down at the bike shop pulled the tyre off and said to me, where’s the new tyre then? I said I need to get the rim repaired. He said, really? I said yeah. After pointing out the damage, he said well I’ve seen 10 times worse than that and it was holding air fine so why worry???
Hmmm.
