I think I have a later set of calipers (twin pot jobbies) from memory one of the bleed nipples is sheared, I'll see if I can find them over the weekend and pop some pics up

Would the good Lord be interested in going full on for his quest for power and go the route of the 'cb450n keighley' bike? Mind you, it's most likely harder to get the 450 lump than the 400. What about getting a complete 400, taking what you need and selling the rest on. Parts prices look like they are on the up so it would offset the cost somewhat. Or just have one of each.
Back in the day I had a '79 250N and went for the 400N when I wanted to get back into the bikes, but still found nostalgia was kicking in so got a 250N for the lad. Now I have two to fix up.

Good info lads, but a simple conversion to a 400 twin disc setup will be fine, bit heavier but probably not noticable on a wonky old Superdream, so I shall be looking for engine, carbs, front brake bits and a fork leg to suit and anything else I need, once all bits are to hand the conversion shall commence, so dig deep, what offerings can thou provide? If only I kept bits from the original restoration, I had 400 discs, calipers etc and gave them away on the previous forum, oh well, perhaps karma will serve me well 🤔🍺👍 A pair of Fork cases? black or gold? The later NB 631 type forks that 400s had did not have the natural aluminium finished fork cases, they were black. Though the gold NC cases are compatible.

I hear he has been venturing into some muddy fields of late, I hope he cleans off his wellies before he joins you in the great hall BP, the great carpet has just had its annual steam clean.

Lord Beer. You need to add side panels and 400 decals to your list. Fortunately I have not yet drunk all your paint. Unless you were planning to hark back to the good old days when we ran a 400 with 250 decals just to fool the plod ?

OK chaps, snooze over with, many thanks for all the replies.
Sir Pete, I would be most grateful for your offer of the discs, forward me your costs.
Sir Duffer, I shall watch your link to the engine and take a stab at it, you must recoup all costs for your efforts so may the best man win.
Sir Buster, your offer of calipers is most generous, keep me informed.
My plan is to keep everything stock, and merely change things that are required to change the bike from 250 to 400.
No work shall commence until all parts are to hand as garage space is limited and having a bike in bits for long periods is not acceptable to my philosophy of 'get it done', I must also watch the pennies, (bloody Alfa)
Apologies if I have missed something from other members, I'm still a bit fuzzy, and not in the happy that was a nice beer kind of way 😄🍺👍

The quest is more complicated than I had first imagined, the quest for ultimate power is indeed a challenge worthy of this forum, Sir Pete has stepped up and provided 400 discs and I thank thee, on the subject of brakes, what do I require, a simple swap of the RHS fork bottom or are the mounting points different requiring complete replacement, calipers? complete 400 calipers needed due to differences?
A 400 engine has been offered from a CB400T, but again this engine has differences of which I am unsure, I note a difference in valve timing, will this be rectified with a flywheel from a 400n, also a five speed box, be this a problem in thy quest, also the carbs for this engine are again different, can 400n carbs be fitted without problem?
I request all with knowledge on these matters to speak up and bring forth their wisdom, The Great High Lord Beer is most open to the wise words of others who have more knowledge than I.

Brakes? Who the hell needs brakes? Only wussies not of thy or my kingdom.....ride a 250N or BSA and you will realise that such 'add ons' are not *really* required...mere accessories much like air bag systems and cup holders. Read the road ahead and put thy footgear to good use, even if beige and over trendy. Man up TGHLB.

I confess I wasnt actually aware of any difference in valve timing, I'd imagine it would be so minor as to be un-noticeable, but thats only an opinion. my 400 thing runs VB31 carbs with no issues, so they should be fine (I also ran it briefly on 450 nighthawk carbs, bit of popping on the overrun, but otherwise fine). again referring to the thing, its now running a later 400/450 type stator and fly wheel, any of the 400 types should be fine on a 400 motor (its all about the advance curve and the hitachi set up has it). five speed box vs six speed? all I can add here is that I often find myself prodding for a non existent gear on the five speed thing, maybe six speeds the way to go...

Lord Beer .
Fear not, I have an older engine in my Nc with a 5 speed box and find it preferable to the 6.
