Was the crankshaft timing OK? balance weights look right but I can't see the crankshaft timing mark. I give up, put us out of our misery please Correct, I had lined up the crank timing mark on the wrong side, so, it was 180° out on the crank

And for noticing that and pointing it out AFTER the sump had been put back....I was as popular as the proverbial fart in a space suite 🤣🤣🤣 I even learned some new words. 😳

Time for another update, the previous stage was done on the Mayday Bank Holiday weekend, after a full week of trying to find the chucked teddies (not all were found ), I decided to make a start on the umpteenth strip down, during the Kings Coronation weekend So, sump off again, decided to try to rectify the mistake without removing the crank carrier, by pulling the balance gear shafts, removing one balance gear, to give enough room to rotate the crank, and line up the other balance gear, then, reinsert the first balance gear, a bit fiddly, but, success Now happy that the crank and balance gears are all timed correctly, refit the sump, after thoroughly cleaning the one week old sealant, and resealing Next, the generator, and clutch assembly By now, my confidence is growing that I can actually rebuild this engine Time for a much needed coffee break Onwards and upwards, refit the pistons, fitted one, no problem, pin in, the locking ring clip went in rather easily, on to the next piston Got the gudgeon pin in, struggled to get the locking ring in place, had a thought about it, let's cover the hole, "just in case" The "just in case" thoughts saved another sump removal, I dropped the clip, and it landed on the newly placed latex gloves Cylinder barrels went on reasonably well, bit of a wiggle here and there, but, nicely dropped in to place Cylinder heads and rocker arms next Had a bit of difficulty getting the cam chain over the gear, had to loosen the tensioning bolt, and push it it, to get enough slack in the chain Now, the engine is fully rebuilt, ready to be refitted in the frame, and as an added bonus, no spares left over I think I might be getting better at this Yes, I know the casing could do with a clean up

After a couple of weeks busy with other things, I eventually managed to get some time to work on the SD, so, with that, engine carefully placed in the boot of the car, and off we went, 45 mile trip up to my parents house, to get it refitted
Pulled my bike trailer round, loaded the gayblade on to it, strapped it down, and took it with us, to make some room for the proper Honda in my garage, it will be easier to do the smaller jobs at home, rather than the 90 mile round trip each and every time Once there, refitting the engine was reasonably easy, all things considered, once in, and all of the other bits refitted, time to crank the engine over, kill switch in the off position, fuel tap still in the off position, press the start button, to crank it over without it firing up With the engine turning over numerous times without firing, I received the obligatory abuse from dad, "you've done something wrong, you've f****d it up, it won't start", all the time whilst he was laughing at me I wanted it cranking, but not starting, to get the oil pressure up, and circulating the oil before trying to run the engine, don't worry, the abuse was duly returned Once the oil light had gone out, time to try and start it, as Buster said, nervous times, would it start? Did I cure the oil leak? I would call that a win Need to fix a few exhaust leaks, but, no oil leak By this time, it was getting late in the afternoon, and we had guests coming over in the early evening, so, it was time to pack the tools away, tidy up the mess we made, and load the Superdream on to the bike trailer, ready fir the journey home It's nice having cctv to keep an eye on the bike whilst in transit It is slowly, but surely, fitting there

if you put a smaller front sprocket on you'll be able to set off in second

More little jobs done
Kick stand removed, cleaned up, repainted, refitted, and fitted a new rubber piece to it
Tried, and failed, to do the same to the centre stand, although, I did remove the crusty, bent old return spring, and replaced it with a nice, shiny new one
Removed a bracket that, apparently, should not be there
The left side shock absorber lower mounting Bush had a little play, so, I bought a pair of new ones, might as well change both sides at the same time Removed the left shock, there was the inner race, and the outer race, but, nothing between them, no wonder it had some play in it, getting the outer race out of the swingarm was a real PITA, after a few hours of getting violent with it, i ended up running the hacksaw throught it a couple of times, to get it out Doing the right side, I just went straight for the hacksaw job Had the engine running a few times, got it warm, there is/was a slight oil weep from somewhere, so, let it cool, cleaned the oil from the outside of the engine, removed the panels and tank to get at the cam cover, just so that I could recheck the torque of the head bolts, did the retorque, refitted the cam cover, and one of the damned bolts snapped Remove the cam cover again, the bolt had snapped well inside the bolt hole Bit of fiddling with some small picks, and managed to unscrew the snapped piece out of the hole, I'll take that as a result Now, patiently waiting for a new bolt, and a couple of seals for the aforementioned bolts to arrive, to see it the retorque sorted the weeping oil

After spending half of yesterday fighting the calipers on the FZR400RR to do a reseal and bleed, I thought I had better do a couple of jobs on the Superdream today First pics are from yesterday, spot anything missing? One of the seals from the smaller piston does not appear to be in place, that is from the left side caliper, but, Oddly enough, it was the right side caliper that was binding, when the pistons were removed from that side, it had a fair bit of gunky slime in there Once cleaned, new seals, lubricated, and rebuilt, then it was the laborious task of bleeding them through Calipers completed, now on to the spark plugs.... Yep, I think the carbs definitely need sorting Pic of it all back together again... Now, back to the Superdream.... One of the jobs on the 'to do' list, was the horn not working, now, if you are following this thread with interest, you will remember that I fitted a brand new horn a few months ago, and, it worked, well, when I tried it kast weekend, it has stopped working Think I may have found out why..... Best check the other wire.... Hmmmmm, not much better, time to sort it properly All refitted, I now have a fully working horn again I think, after the Kelsall show this coming weekend, where both bikes in this post will be on display, and, my new shed/workshop has been delivered and built, the Superdream may well get a full strip down, and frame painted, with the wiring loom fully checked over for more badges like pictured above
