Thanks for the offers buster, I need to fund some measuring tools to determine whether my barrels are usable or not, the cost of a rebore is within my budget . I have yet to look at my balance weights, so will let you know. Could not get the center stand sleeve out, not really surprising, so I cut the bugger off. There was a part missing plus a buggered bolt . May have to find a local workshop to heat the stand and use a big press to get it out. Once I have the frame is finished I will go carry on with the motor.
This was missing from the first picture?

Centre stand...SNAFU!

I have given up trying to delete my double post.
SNAFU , new to me but so true.
Mr Honda, this is shite. Surely a welded thread block at each end would have done, not exactly a heavy bike.
Then there is the side stand , make the lug twice as thick please... just a smidgeon of fore thought would go a long way.
Its bad enough to have to strip the motor to renew the balance chain every 30k -40k
Does the CB 360 motor have balance weights?

the cb360 had a 180 degree crank (so a 'true' twin cylinder) so no balance shaft, the SD is a 360 degree crank (really a split single) hence the balacers

Thanks for that buster, if I ever finish this one, I would like a CB360. Which is the smoother engine? Anyway, my balancers are on good shape . Rubbers intact. 1mm radial movement. There is a groove on the balance chain guide , is this toast ? cam chain units look good. Once I have either got my center stand shaft pressed out, or sourced a half decent one, I will get a quote on getting the frame and bits powder coated.

all those guides look good to me when the balance weights are together is there any lash in them? ie hold the weight part in one hand and turn the sprocket back and forth, I'll probably have a load of secondhand cush rubbers for them chucking about somewhere, they get quite expensive if you have to buy a load of them

The two lines I scribed at 12 oclock, is the amount of play between the rubbers and the housing. I cannot see any reason for renewing them. Both sets were the same.

looks like you've got a bike thats been cared for very well, the balance chain has a habit of not self adjusting (you'll see how that works when you build back up) and people 'help' the adjuster, then the chain chews the guides and eats the cush rubbers.
cb360 vs SD? well I'v never owned a 360 (had a 350k4 though) I'd say the SD is the smoother but I'v always maintained that the earlier honda twins were some of the sweetest little twin cylinder engines ever made, not without their occasional issues but sweet as when they're right

I finally found the con rod codes. Looked through my photos and it was staring at me, doh.. perhaps the shadow from the flash highlighted it. Really hard to see in normal light.
The main bearing journals were really good, quarter of a thou run out max. My 89 year old neighbor is an ex tool maker and kept all his engineering tools. We all need good neighbors ... .. The piston and bores are standard issue. Once I have a better micrometer and bore gauge I can decide whether to re ring, or rebore. I can guess which it will be.
The big end journals were checked for ovality with a micrometer and seemed fine. I will get some plastigauge next week and check the current clearances. Having read Busters posts about getting black shells, both my outer mains are black , are these that difficult to find? Although my bottom case has slight damage to its lower engine mount block , I would prefer to use my original if I can get black shells should I need them. My case codes are CBC One of my con rod caps is really difficult to remove from the rod studs , is there any way to make this better? Bob

I know I should have marked where the head bolts came from.
Have placed the inner bolts in order of thread depth looking at underneath the casting. My bike is an early unit so no bolts with seals. The two outer shorter bolts are obviously fitted at the rear . I have polished my nearside con rod bottom threads so I can remove the cap by hand. Plastigauge will be coming next week, hopefully no nasty surprises. Have been removing crud from the cases with a wire brush attachment in my drill. Need to get some alloy polisher and a buffer . Not sure what do with the head yet. All threads and bolts have been cleaned up, no damage on any .

Paid for some plastigauge via a seller through Amazon.
8 days delivery time, but I am starting my boxer main service, so no problem.
Parcel comes, and hey ho , nothing inside, zilch , zero, fresh air. Logged into my Amazon account and asked for a refund due to nothing being sent, and got an immediate reply saying
a full refund is on its way . Admission of guilt or Amazon over working their employees..
At least the main bike will be on the road again before the new stuff gets here.
Am praying my black main shells are ok.

a trick I'v used on a couple of my own engines, the shells nearest to the mag wheel tend to get the most grief so if possible I swap those over, on my 250 motor I had three sets of black shells so I put the worst set in the middle (they still measured ok, just a bit more discolouration than the others). it means running the engine in but if you rebore it then thats to do anyway.

Thanks buster, that could be very useful. Hopefully next month I will have some more plastigauge.
A decent digital micrometer and bore gauge would be more accurate, just very expensive. If I can see myself doing this again, then it would be worth the cost.
Anyway , back to the main bike service for now.
Thanks again.

I keep considering a decent set of engineers calipers but they're quite difficult to find, auto jumble probably the best bet
