I keep considering a decent set of engineers calipers but they're quite difficult to find, auto jumble probably the best bet Have a look here... vintagetoolshop.com/I'm kind of lucky as I have my Dad's stuff. So I have calipers as above as well as a bore guage and various dial guages. My micrometers are all in imperial as is my vernier. I did buy a cheapo digital vernier and it's quite accurate. There is a set of Silverline spring calipers ( 155026 ) on Amazon for £7!

I'm jealous of both Andy and BP, the old stuffs just so much better quality, I'll have a look at that shop though

I have just received another center stand," advertised" as from a CB250N . It fits into the frame, but the legs are slightly shorter. Will it lift the bike enough for the rear wheel to clear the ground.

I'm probably wrong but that looks a bit like cb250k, the spring hook is triggering something in the depths of my mind

The fit inside the frame is good, the spindle id is the same so just some fiddling around with the return spring arrangement.
Plus its shiny .........

Back to the engine.. note to self: when stripping an engine it would make sense to see what you have ie, compression , and any valve leakage. So I have either improved things or otherwise.. lapped all the valves , and ended up with two sickly patients. one exhaust , one inlet. two out of six , I will take that. One of the exhaust seats had two small nicks next to each other. If that is leaking I will post some photos. Although they looked good, petrol will find an escape route if the goddess of Valvehalla? is not happy. Trying to get the rubber sucker to stick on the smaller valves, with the recess in the middle, was a swine. nearly glued em on... Some decent measuring kit is still a while away. Wife wants holidays and music festivals . ...
