That's the beauty of having a bike of the same model, you can get down to some serious trouble shooting.
It's the CDI. Dead as a door nail. Put the one from the other Bonnie on and it sparks like a lord.

probably fairly easy to guess why the cdi is fried too, a previous pic of the wiring loom is a bit of a giveaway

So that was quite a fruitful day. I answered a small ad whilst eating brekkie, jumped in the car, hit the 101 and picked up this little lot for no less than $100. I was about to chip the guy a tenner when I just thought, don't do it.....everyone wants / needs front end parts like these, a no brainer....they are totally cheap enough already Don't really need any of it on this project but those forks alone I could flip for at least $350 tomorrow, they are honestly really good, stanchions are perfect like new chrome after a clean. But I'm sure I will use 'em at some point.

Never let anyone tell you that Crocs are not serious fashion items.....if they do they are lying.

Quick update, I got a good used CDI last week. Spark issue now resolved. Now to tear into the cosmetics whilst also removing the carbs for a full clean / inspection.

Now, as this is a low budget project I have made a decision on this one to do my own paintwork. (Shock horror). I have always been confident painting general bike parts but not when it comes to the bodywork, I have always farmed that out to those in the know. So I have a masterplan. I was lucky to stumble on this short rear mudguard from a 2015 Bonnie Scrambler last week. I picked up this and a seat for $95. This is a factory colour called 'Matt Pacific Blue'. I had a local paint supplier do me a match from said mudguard. I think If I get the prep right, I am confident at this.....we will see. I think as it's not gloss and decal less it will be an easy job but time well tell. Just literally prepped the front muddy. Tank to follow.

Hmm.....okay. Well, the paint stripper is certainly doing its job.....probably a bit too well in fact.

Carbs now cleaned and ready to pop back on. So far I have not had to ultrasonically clean any of these type of carbs but if they are found to not be spot on then they will be coming off again for that very treatment. One of the float valves was found to be stuck quite firm in its seat so my assumption is that the CDI failure took this bike off the road and the carb was a secondary problem from sitting for at least a year with ethanol fuel in the bowls. Replacement valves now fitted and seats cleaned with brasso and cotton buds. To the visual eye and feel they are operating normally now. Will see how they operate when back in situ. Float heights set as per factory manual and T pipe joint O-rings replaced at both ends too. I plan to refit them when I have chance tomorrow.
