Got 'em back all nice and clean......guess what I'll be doing today?.....luckily these carbs are not too much of a pig to remove and refit at all.

very nice. what are the two electrical connectors for? Carb Heaters I see clearly now, never thought of that, my old 900 ninja had the kawasaki 'bodge' of coolant pipes running round the carb bank

And the electrical lead coming from them is for the throttle position sensor.

And the electrical lead coming from them is for the throttle position sensor. is it fly by wire throttle? or is it just an emissions type thing?

The latter Buster, it has an A and B throttle cable just like our humble SD.

It is interesting the carb heating thing though, Buster. As you say, your bike was done via the coolant, and I think my Jellymould CBR's were also done via that method. I owned a Ducati Monster a few years ago that also had electric carb heaters.....but the model they made the year before had the carbs heated through the oil cooling system.
A lot of people moan about these heaters on the Bonneville and often just disconnect it/them....they reckon they are unnecessary and are just another thing they fitted later on to try and satisfy some kind of emissions regs. That said, if you lived in the North Pole they would actually probably serve their purpose.

Finally got the carbs back on the Bonnie yesterday.....and had chance to get new fuel in the tank and fire her up today. Has this gone as straight forward as I'd hoped? No. And tonight I am seriously worried I may have caused some damage to the engine.

And what's funny....maybe even ironic is the fact that I would have picked this issue up on a Superdream before it would of had a chance of doing any possible damage to the engine.... and what's even stranger is that I have also given some advice on the matter in the techno section of the forum earlier. Talk about timing.
