Hello all,
I thought I'd start a build thread rather than updating the hello thread, so as a reminder here are some collection shots of the bike.
In the last week since collecting the bike, I have worked on various bits of it. The engine was seized, so I've managed to free it up and dismantled the top end. One of the pistons had its rings stuck, so I've managed to remove them. They both look OK, so I'll just change both sets of rings and give the barrels a hone.
The rest of the engine is still in the bike as the long bolt at the back is stuck in there, so seeing as it moves to and fro about an inch may well need both ends cutting off to get it clear of the frame so I can drill it out while being able to see the engine mounts.
The clocks have had a bit of a refurb with the mounting bracket being derusted and sprayed black and the case has been reoiled with ATF to get back to the original black plastic colour. The reset knob is broken and even though I've been told it should unscrew clockwise, it just spins and makes a click sound every revolution. I have turned it anticlockwise to reset to zero though.
I've had a go at the front caliper and the carburettors welding nuts on to remove the rounded screws...
The plastic cover on the caliper has been saved...
... but the bleed nipple has previously been sheared off and I'm not sure how to go about fixing that currently. I'll have to have a think.
One carburettor has been serviced and parts replaced, but the other is in a bit of a bad state as the main jet holder has been crushed (looks like whoever was last in there didn't have a 7mm socket or spanner) and one of the legs that the float pin goes through is broken, so not sure what to do about that either.
I've managed to get some plastic body panels over the weekend. The left one has the tank lug missing and has been covered in filler, then black paint which I've nearly finished scraping off. The right one has the tank lug and the rear lug missing, but isn't covered in filler. The rear one seems fine, although I've got no way to mount it as I haven't got a seat yet.
I got two tanks with the bike, but I think they are both beyond saving as both have rust damage round the filler hole and the silver one has visible holes elsewhere.
So that's about it for now apart from waiting for David silver to deliver some bits.
I have got the original bars by the way, which are going back on, they just needed to be removed to get the bike in the back of my car and the ones that are currently on were easier to use to get the bike out of my car.
